POSITION TITLE: Director, of Simulation

DEPARTMENT: College of Health Sciences

POSITION STATUS: Full Time (10-month)

POSITION REPORTS TO: Dean, College of Health Sciences

JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Dean, the Simulation Director is responsible for the strategic leadership and management of Simulation in the College of Health Sciences. The Simulation Director collaborates with faculty and staff to design, implement and evaluate simulation-based learning experiences according to best practice standards in simulation to assist students in meeting established course and program objectives. The Simulation Director reports to the Dean of the COHS, serves as a member of the COHS Leadership Council. The Simulation Director manages the simulation staff, operation of the simulation lab and standardized participant program in the COHS.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ACTIVITIES:

Leadership and oversight of Simulation:

  • Collaborates with faculty to design, implement and evaluate simulation learning experiences based on standards of best practice
  • Establishes, revises and implements policies and procedures for Simulation in the Fort Wayne COHS
  • Upholds simulation policies and procedures.
  • Manages a system of evaluation and quality improvement
  • Collaborates with the USF Office of Institutional Research (OIRE) to collect and analyze simulation related data.
  • Provides summative evaluation data to COHS Dean
  • Provides Dean with budget projections and cost analysis
  • Manages the SL budget
  • Oversees the Standardized Patient/Participant program
  • Manages simulation staff
  • Oversees daily operation of the SL including simulators, equipment, video recording system, supplies and calendar
  • Maintains effective communication with the COHS.
  • Assists with marketing, communications, and public relations
  • Coordinates information to be posted on internal and external websites and other communication sites
  • Maintains safety and OSHA compliance

Teaching & Related Activities

Simulation Director:

  • Continues professional development in simulation pedagogy
  • Facilitates the implementation of simulation best practice standards
  • Creates an effective learning environment for students and faculty
  • Inspires confidence and supports innovation in students and faculty
  • Proposes plans to improve simulation experiences
  • Makes simulation data accesssible

Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Licensed health professions background
  • Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field required
  • Graduate degree is preferred

Licensure/Certification

  • Current license in area of health specialty required
  • Certification in healthcare simulation education preferred

Experience

  • Minimum of five years experience in a health profession
  • Three years teaching experience in a university setting with progressive leadership experience
  • Experience in collaborative initiatives preferred
  • Prior experience in a managerial role preferred

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Competence in educational principles and techniques used in higher education classrooms, laboratory and clinical settings
  • General knowledge of healthcare professions including standards, regulations and accreditation
  • Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written and electronic) necessary to interact effectively with students, faculty, professional staff, administration, clinical affiliates, and the community
  • Skill in goal setting, budget management, and team building
  • Analytical and organizational skills to plan, implement, and evaluate lab activities
