Accountability Objective
The Director of Nursing Education participates in the overall development of policies and procedures pertaining to the planning and implementation of activities that will enable the nursing program to meet all state accreditation requirements for the nursing education programs. The Director is responsible for supervising nursing faculty, coordinating faculty activities that promote and achieve the educational outcomes, academic standards, and accreditation of the Nursing Programs.
Required Qualifications
Master’s Degree or higher with a major in Nursing
Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in Illinois
At least 2 years’ experience in clinical nursing practice
At least 2 years’ experience as an instructor in an RN or higher nursing education program · Experience working effectively with the public in a variety of situations
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Self-directed and innovative, able to assess situations to improve the outcomes
Excellent organizational skills and proven ability to meet deadlines in a timely manner
Ability to facilitate and coordinate activities related to academic policies, personnel policies, curriculum, resource facilities and services, and program evaluation
Ability to understand and apply management principles concerning budgeting personnel costs, expenses, while providing the necessary and proper customer service.

Schedule and conduct regular faculty meetings in order to enhance faculty development and motivation, develop teaching strategies, and facilitate cooperative problem-solving.

Ensure current compliance with nursing insurance coverage, College policies, State rules and regulations.

Act as a liaison with other units of the college.

Responsible for staffing coursework, skills labs and clinical.

Prepare course schedules, faculty workloads staff and program development, budget and personnel management, procurement of extramural resources, clinical affiliations and promotion of scholarships and excellence in nursing.

Maintain current licensure as registered professional nurse in Illinois and complete 20 hours of continuing education to maintain licensure.

Participate in the interview and selection process of program’s faculty, and orient new faculty; facilitate faculty development; supervise and evaluate faculty; supervise and evaluate Office Assistant.

Actively recruit students for the Nursing program.

Assist Division Dean with establishment of budget for nursing education programs, utilizing purchase orders for nursing equipment and teaching aids.

Notify the Illinois Division of Financial and Professional Regulation, as well as ACEN, of program changes; submit annual report to the Division.

Develop in collaboration with faculty program, assessment outcomes and work with a Program Advisory committee to keep curriculum relevant to the nursing profession.

Assigns daily work duties to subordinates using independent judgment and may seek approval for additional staff and/or overtime when deemed necessary.

Monitor and compile state board examination pass rates, facilitating appropriate improvements when necessary and placement rates.

Approves or denies vacation, sick, and personal business leave requests by nursing program employees.

Issues verbal and written reprimands and recommends more serious personnel actions.

Serves as a College representative in the first step of the grievances arbitration process outlined in the Collective Bargaining agreements between the College and the Association(s) and/or addressing complaints by non-represented staff. As the representative, has the authority to respond to and address grievances filed by bargaining unit employees and/or serves as the College representative in addressing complaints by employees. Director should work closely with the Dean in all grievances.
