This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic, innovative, and growing team that will play a key role in driving profit growth for Sprouts. The Director, National Produce will lead a team that partners with National Category Managers and Replenishment to drive the overall financial and strategic objectives of the organization. The Director will oversee National Sourcing and Category Management, to drive key planning, national vendor relationships, and analyze the P&L to identify opportunities/risks that create business results. This role will lead Category Review processes and drive consistent approach throughout the produce department and support teams across National, Replenishment, Planning, Pricing, and Schematics.

Budgeting
- Leads the yearly budget and plan for Produce across a wide array of vendor, customer, and merchandising segments.
- Works with MP&A and Pricing to builds financial models to support accurate planning and influence decision making.
Planning and Forecasting
- Works with growers on seasonal commitments, new skus and programs to closely understand business drivers, risks, and opportunities.
- Step change categories and commodities with innovation, strategic sourcing and sku rational, working closely with key internal customers, partners, and growers.
- Responsible for achieving all components of the merchandise plan, including sales and margin
- Responsible for having weekly calls with Replenishment Leadership to ensure direction and the outlook of the business.
Analysis
- Develops holistic understanding of category, consumer, and competitive dynamics; translates them into division portfolio plans that optimize revenue, margin, pricing and assortment.
- Provides analysis and recommendations to achieve department revenue and profit goals.
- Leverage consumer insights and data, combined with a structured test-and-learn approach, to maximize growth opportunities.
Marketing and ‘Story Telling’
- Assist with creation of bi-weekly and/or monthly seasonally relevant signage packages presentations for Merchandising leadership.
- Thoroughly work and communicate with our marketing partners to plan and execute product and grower story telling.
- Create a unique produce destination.
Other
- Create presentations and or recaps for Merchandising leadership.
- Accountable for team leadership/development – lead and develop high-potential team responsible for analyzing and interpreting data to drive decision-making and delivering key insights that drive growth and efficiencies. Includes: recruiting, training, development, succession planning
Serves as project lead for ad hoc projects by managing objectives, deliverables, and key milestones with minimal supervision
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Physical Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Produce Retail experience preferred
- 6+ years of experience with progressively increasing responsibility in a retail merchandise planning role, category management, or retail consulting (or related fields)
- 3+ years’ experience building, leading, motivating teams
- Experience with budgeting, planning, modeling and forecasting systems
- Analytical mindset with detail orientation and entrepreneurial work ethic
- Strong communication skills and ability to influence
- Highly adept in various systems, including superior Excel and PowerPoint skills
- Demonstrated skill with root cause analysis; able to spot when something isn’t quite right and quickly address.
- A structured and creative thinker, able to toggle easily between the big themes and the little details
- A humble leader with a collaborative style, who can self-manage, define and execute new processes and strategies
