SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Director of Marketing Communications and Media will supervise fundraising efforts for Direct Mail, the Capital Campaign and the City Mission Thrift stores. This individual will also develop media relations outreach and communications/messaging strategies to include direct mail, website, social media, TV, radio, and digital marketing. This individual will seek opportunities to enhance City Mission’s brand, development efforts, mission and business activities to facilitate the raising of funds for City Mission.
The Marketing and Communications Manager will work closely with Chief Development Officer to develop an annual communications plan to generate revenue for City Mission and increase awareness of all programs and services provided by City Mission.
The Marketing and Communications Manager will collaborate with Chief Development Officer and the Development Team to develop outward-facing communications, including appeals and acquisitions, newsletters, videos, TV and radio commercials, the website, press releases, email campaigns and a variety of correspondence related to fundraising campaigns such as Thanksgiving or End-of-Year Giving as well as events like the Annual Golf Outing and Fall Gala.
This individual will also collaborate with the Chief Development Officer and Capital Campaign Coordinator to implement Capital Campaign marketing campaigns that work in tandem with communications plan, supporting fundraising campaigns and events.
Additionally, this individual will work with the Director of Hope Enterprise to develop an annual and implement an annual marketing plan for the City Mission Thrift Stores, and to insure that sufficient resources are allocated to this effort.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Upholds, promote, and encourage, in word and deed, the desired organizational culture and core values.
  • Manages overall marketing and promotional functions to construct and market appropriate image and branding.
  • Defines goals and objectives for Marketing, Communications, Media, and Direct Mail for fiscal year.
  • Oversees and approves all Direct Mail fundraising efforts, striving to achieve established monthly financial goals.
  • Develops a digital strategy, including website with optional functionality and high-impact content, tied to social, video, and email to drive donation transactions.
  • Develops annual Comcast TV/digital campaigns.
  • Develops or edits radio presentations and serves as main liaison to radio stations.
  • Develop Capital Campaign fund-raising materials and annual plan, including 4 yearly Capital Campaign Newsletters with Asks.
  • Develop and implement an annual marketing plan for the City Mission Thrift Stores in conjunction with the Director of Hope Enterprises, insuring that the materials enhance and reflect City Mission’s brand.
  • Coordinates the production and updating of Development promotional materials, including the Monday Morning Memo, the Quarterly Newsletter, the 1-sheet, the media kit and brochures for various development sections.
  • Works with the Chief Development Officer to insure completion of event and routine marketing/PR tasks.
  • Develops and executes City Mission (CM) annual fundraising plan for Direct Mail. Is final approving authority for all Direct Mail Appeals and Acquisitions going out.
  • Analyzes Salsa data to develop targeted fundraising tactics.
  • Collaborates with CEO, CDO, COO and CFO to develop budget for existing and new fundraising strategies, manage and administrate budget accordingly; authorize purchase orders and insure budget compliance within department.
  • Supervises resource allocation for marketing and PR activities.
  • Provides CDO with reports according to agreed upon schedule.
  • Stays abreast of changing market conditions for fundraising purposes.
  • Maintains strong working relationships with marketing partners outside the Mission. Guide, direct and supervise their efforts on the Mission’s behalf.
  • Carries out additional duties as requested by CDO.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Mature Christian, committed to and passionate about sharing the gospel and building disciples of Jesus Christ with the needy, homeless, addicted, and mentally ill.
  • Ability to provide biblical counsel and guidance to staff and clients.
  • Strong management and leadership abilities, able to coach, equip, and develop individuals.
  • Level-headed, purposeful in reactions, proactive problem solver. Gathers all information before making decisions and makes decisions that demonstrate sound judgment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, adept at building relationships with diverse groups of people.
  • Good discernment with regard to people and situations, exercise patience and wisdom within an environment of grace.
  • Able to maintain “big picture” perspective and continue to move self and staff toward that end.
  • Knowledge of drug and alcohol, mental illness, homeless and poverty issues desired.
  • Computer literate, proficient in internet and email as well as Microsoft office and graphics programs.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • BA (required), MA (a plus), relevant experience may be substituted for formal education.
  • 5-plus years experience in marketing/development/fundraising
  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and communication skills
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Climbing Stairs
  • Licensed driver with ability to drive at night
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • In and around Mission Campus
  • Satellite facilities operated by Mission
  • Varied work schedule including some evenings and weekends hours
