POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Health Services is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Huckleberry Youth Health Center, including the San Francisco Health Education team and the Client Services team, as well managing the relationship with the Cole Street Clinic, a San Francisco Department of Public Health adolescent health clinic. The position supports delivery of high quality education and behavioral health services while ensuring continuity of services for clients as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Design, document, and implement program policies and procedures consistent with Huckleberry Youth Programs mission. Maintain complete team manuals and site manuals.

  • In collaboration with the Client Services Manager and the Community Health Manager, specify staff positions, and schedules. Assist managers with the hiring and training of new direct service staff. Responsible for the hiring and training of program management staff.

  • Supervise the Client Services Manager and the Community Health Manager including individual supervision, performance evaluation, goal setting and professional development.

  • Maintain and develop a partnership with SF Department of Public Healths Community Health Programs for Youth (CHPY). Provide oversight of clinic operations in collaboration with CHPY leadership.

  • Establish and maintain effective relations with referral agencies, community partners and funders.

  • In collaboration with the Client Services Manager and the Community Health Manager, design and implement an ongoing effective outreach plan to youth, parents, community agencies, and schools.

  • Assist with the development of a program budget in conjunction with the Director of Finance and Director of Health and Safety.

  • Assist in the preparation of proposals for new or expanded funding in conjunction with Development staff and Director of Health and Safety.

  • Manage program expenditures in accordance with approved budgets. Complete expense tracking and coding documentation for finance.

  • Monitor all contracts attached to the Huckleberry Youth Health Center and ensure appropriate progress towards meeting goals. Monitor program implementation to assure effective accomplishment of the program's goals. Report on program accomplishment and effectiveness as required by agency funding sources.

  • Assist with the maintenance of program facilities and equipment.

  • Assist in agency management through consideration and preparation of agency plans and policies, and consistently serve as the principal communication link between the program and other units and individuals within the agency. Actively strive to connect and integrate the program and its staff with the activities of other programs and staff within the agency.

  • Participate in and provide leadership to assigned community groups involved in planning, advocacy, and funding activities which affect the program and its clientele, as directed by the Director of Health and Safety.

  • In conjunction with the Executive Director and other agency Directors, attend public meetings as designated.

  • Participate in the agency management team including XMT, SFMT and all staff meetings; participate in weekly individual supervision with the Director of Health & Safety. Lead all-site meetings and attend team meetings as required.

  • Prepare for annual program monitoring activities by maintaining required documentation, fire clearances, inspections, posters, certifications, etc.

  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Health and Safety

COMPETENCIES:

  • Ability to manage both highly experienced, supervisory level staff, as well as less experienced, direct service staff.

  • Approach supervision of staff from a strengths based perspective, taking into consideration specific needs, abilities, and challenges.

  • Ability to manage competing demands, unexpected circumstances, shifting priorities and a variety of tasks.

  • Ability to facilitate a variety of meeting types including team meetings, site meetings, partner meetings, program planning meetings and community meetings.

  • Willingness and ability to do facilities management including repairs, coordinating with contractors, addressing safety concerns and maintaining code requirements.

  • Familiarity with, and enthusiasm for, sexual and reproductive health education, HIV care and prevention, Hep C care and prevention, STI care and prevention, models of integrated healthcare, behavioral health, homelessness prevention, substance misuse prevention and youth empowerment.

  • Able to effectively collaborate with internal and external partners on various projects and initiatives. Able to ensure integration and collaboration among teams.

  • Keep abreast of current trends, through publications and events to ensure the organization is using best practices and ethical approaches.

  • Highly organized, detail oriented and able to work independently.

  • Perform tasks and responsibilities in a thorough and timely manner in compliance with agency policy and standards.

  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality at all times.

  • Strong written, analytical, and verbal communication skills.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position supervises the Client Services Manager and the Community Health Manager.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This role requires the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend, sit or stand as necessary and climb stairs. The role requires the ability to facilitate meetings, including writing on the whiteboard and facilitating conversations among staff.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position operates at the Huckleberry Youth Health Center. The Huckleberry Youth Health Center is located in San Francisco and is accessible by public transportation. Candidates must be able to work in person in San Francisco.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • BA required in health, social work, or related field.

  • Minimum of three (3) years experience working with high-risk adolescents and diverse communities.

  • Minimum of five (5) years experience with staff development, staff supervision, program management, and program development.

  • Experience training and onboarding of supervisees.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Continuing education in the field preferred

2. Experience in a health care setting, with Health Education and/or with case management preferred

3. Experience with crisis intervention services and housing services preferred

SECURITY CLEARANCE:

  • Must pass DOJ/FBI background check. Due to our requirements with licensing, candidates with backgrounds including items on this non-exemptible crimes list will not be eligible for exemption at this time.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must provide recent TB clearance

  • Valid CAs drivers license and clean DMV record

  • Must have or complete First Aid/CPR training

  • Fully vaccinated for COVID 19
