Position Summary:

The Director of Event Launches & Support is responsible for driving EBM’s organic live event growth across the enterprise. The role is tasked with creating and scaling live, in-person events that compliment and bring to life our publishing, data, digital and other lead generation offerings.

You’ll identify and research live event opportunities that have the largest scale potential and the best opportunity for success. You’ll do qualitative and quantitative research to identify commercial viability, potential scale, and then identify the appropriate event formats, timing, budgeting, and resources required. Where appropriate, you’ll roll up your sleeves and sell, market, produce, and ensure that launch products meet their goals. Essential to success is the development of an event pipeline where event ideas are systematically being captured and researched so that there’s always product ready to go.

Besides individual event successes, you’ll collaborate with and support vertical market leadership on increasing the size of their events portfolio in order to drive revenue, contribution and their leadership position in the market. Specific Responsibilities: The Director will identify, recommend, research and support the launches of new live events that drive revenue, contribution and that contribute to the brand’s market leadership position.

Identification of Launch Opportunities:

  • Independently identify and research market opportunities
  • Collaborate with vertical market team leadership (xVP’s/Group Publishers/Publishers) on ideation, then independently research ideas for commercial viability
  • Utilize internal tools including Market Map meetings, publications/newsletters, etc. with each vertical leadership team to gain an understanding of what’s current in their specific sector
  • Conduct personal qualitative and quantitative research including market analysis, internal data analysis, surveys and phone-based research
  • Develop recommended budgets, pricing and attendance/sponsorship goals

Develop staffing plans that utilize internal talent and external freelancers

  • Prioritize launches based upon factors including event revenue potential, calendar timing, and resources required/available

Communication of Launch Opportunities:

  • Develop launch briefs that identify potential event titles, format, why now?, buy- and sell-side rational, titles and product categories, competitive landscape, timing, pricing, budgeting, recommended timelines, benchmarks/KPI’s and resource allocations
  • Submit briefs to market leadership for review and feedback
  • Conduct launch meetings with relevant team members Launch Support In-Market Launches
  • Provide guidance and assistance to resources in all areas ranging from content creation to sales calls, to marketing copy and venue selection
  • Source internal and external/freelance talent to execute launches
  • Tactically execute any responsibilities assumed in launch brief
  • Track all event metrics, ensuring events are on-track to meet essential KPI’s

Organizational Scaling:


  • Support a culture of launching as a necessary element of growth
  • Enable vertical market leaders to better identify opportunities through training, shared insights and relationship-building
  • Build towards a goal of each vertical market having access to resources to move quickly on opportunities
  • Identify when and how individual market teams will benefit from hiring an internal resource or resources (e.g., conference production)
  • Identify when and how specialized services can be shared across the enterprise for economies of scale via a shared services department (e.g., meeting planning / venue contracting, registration and software contracting, marketing services) Skills and Abilities:
