PURPOSE*:
The Director of Development will work to cultivate and solicit potential donors to support the increasing private funding needs of the Clifford Beers Community Care Center (CBCCC) with a focus on annual giving, major individual gifts, planned giving and corporate and foundation giving. This Director will also work with the Board of Directors and Agency Leadership in promoting the mission and services of CBCCC with a focus on strategic initiatives and activities to support short and long term goals. This position reports directly to the CBCCC Executive Director.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES*:

  • Working with the Board’s Resource and Development Committee in informing the committee regarding all development activities, fund raising, annual appeal and special events, seeking their support and advice
  • Strategizes with and shares development plan with the CBCCC Executive Director and Leadership team.
  • Cultivating relationships with prospective donors and managing donor relations with a goal of increasing their awareness of CBCCC programs and engagement
  • Identifying funding sources of grants, in-kind donations.
  • Grant writing
  • Increasing donor base and maintenance of current donors
  • Developing and implementing a corporate and foundation gift solicitation program
  • Working with appropriate staff to identify program funding needs, participating in specific program and planning committees
  • Increasing public awareness of CBCCC programs
  • Using appropriate technology to maintain donor tracking system
  • Representing the CBCCC at community meetings
  • Engaging in public speaking activities for purposes of public relations, fund raising and related functions
  • Functioning as liaison between the Board’s Resource and Development Committee and staff
  • Supervision of staff as assigned.
  • Development Department goal development and oversight of all activities including fund raising events
  • Work closely with the CBCCC Director of Strategy & Implementation and the Director of Grants in establishing a fluid and collaborative relationship that will support CBCCC goals.
  • Performing other related duties as directed

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: *

  • Post-secondary school degree desirable.
  • Prefer 5 years or more of demonstrated experience promoting not-for-profit Human Services organization(s).
  • Some grant writing experience

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

TRAVEL*

  • This role may require travel throughout the Greater New Haven and the State of Connecticut.
