Government Relations and Community Affairs
Reporting to the Vice President of Government Relations and Community Affairs, the Director of Community Affairs will work to optimize support and visibility for the campus through government and community partnerships.
UMBC offers competitive compensation. This role starts at $93,000 and has over 4 weeks of vacation for regular full time roles. Tuition remission is also available.

The Director of Community Affairs will assist the VP in building relationships with local leaders and be a visible presence while representing UMBC. They will also work to optimize support and visibility for the campus through community partnerships.
Specific responsibilities include:
Managing day-to-day community affairs work, including building relationships with local elected officials and their teams and community leaders in the Baltimore region
Communicating and advocating for university priorities to governmental officials, local and national organizations and other government entities on key legislative issues
Identifying and tracking local and federal legislation of interest to UMBC and preparing background and testimony to support UMBC’s position
Developing content for community and government engagement related news, events and initiatives
- Regularly monitoring and reporting developments in higher education, economic development, cybersecurity, environment and social inequality to identify stakeholder relations and communications opportunities

Managing campus visits, public information requests, constituent service requests from elected officials and responses to inquiries from campus neighbors
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Public Policy, Public Health, Education or a related field, or a law degree and/or relevant experience.
- Four years of experience working with and building relationships with public officials and their teams
- Experience building relationships with the surrounding Catonsville and Arbutus communities
