Position is remote but open to residents of the State of Ohio only. Must reside in Ohio as of start date.

Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio
is seeking a mission-minded Associate to join us as a full time (37.5 per week) Director of Communications.


SUMMARY

Under the leadership of the Assistant Vice President of Marketing and Communications, the Director of Communications will oversee the strategic vision and long-term success of the organizations communications work. This work will include leading a team of communicators and collaborating with marketers to maximize successful communications strategies that speak to patients, clients, donors, corporate supporters, activists and organizers, and community leaders in order to fulfill our organizational mission, vision, values, and business and fundraising goals.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • In collaboration with the Assistant Vice President of Marketing and Communications, create a vision for a comprehensive strategic communications plan that fulfills departmental communications goals for our diverse audiences.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Vice President of Marketing and Communications to define and refine our value proposition through messaging, visual style, tone, and editorial direction.
  • Collaborate across departments and with all organization-wide content creators to build a deep understanding of the messaging needs of each unique audience to build successful and interconnected communication strategies for each audience.
  • Lead mission-related communication campaigns and coordinate content of all external and internal communication and marketing materials with respective departments to ensure consistency.
  • Build a strong media outreach strategy and develop strong relationships with statewide media outlets with an emphasis on pitching stories, hosting press conferences, building media trainings, and managing the coordination of subject-matter experts to serve as spokespeople and thought leaders about PPGOHs work, and track the results of these efforts.
  • Oversee the development and execution of key communication materials including strategic messaging documents, editorial calendars, style guides, the annual report, press releases, media alerts, op-eds, talking points, event communications, speeches, brochures, donor communications, one-pagers, and other key communication collateral.
  • Embody a culture of storytelling and collaborate with staff and vendors as needed to develop PR strategies to promote our stories as consumable multi-platform content for the media, donors, patients, community leaders, partners, and staff.
  • Collaborate closely with the Marketing team to build strategic and results-driven advertising and social media campaigns.
  • Liaise with Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) on key messaging, communications strategies, and the latest PPFA talking points, and incorporate as appropriate in building affiliate communication campaigns.
  • Lead executive-level communications and counsel on crisis communications as needed.
  • Stay on top of marketing and communications trends to inspire the team to build creative, strategic, effective, and timely communication activities and tactics that maximize giving and support the long-term building of relationships.


WHAT YOU WILL BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in communications, journalism, marketing or other related field
  • 5 years of experience in communications, marketing or other related work
  • 3 years of management/supervisory experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, team-building, and external relationship building skills
  • Must be able to work independently with the ability to prioritize and lead with minimal supervision.
  • Strong writer with significant storytelling aptitude, including strategic direction setting, campaign conceptualization, and communication strategy development.
  • Strong business acumen with proven strategic planning and a track record of success
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization
  • Strong collaborator, highly strategic and creative
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, team-building, mentoring, and external relationship building skills
