Overview:

The mandate of the Strategic Segments / Industry Partnerships Team is to improve Ellucian’s ability to partner and engage with Executive-level decision makers of colleges and universities, higher education industry associations, philanthropic organizations, and research organizations to demonstrate the positive impact Ellucian technology solutions has on higher education and to strengthen Ellucian’s market position.

This is an exciting role for an established leader who has experience developing new and innovative partnership programs. As the Director of Marketing & Industry Partnerships, you are responsible for 1) maintaining a very deep understanding of the higher education landscape, including key organizations, people, trends, student insights and partnerships; and 2) prioritizing, developing, coordinating, and executing strategies to enhance Ellucian’s market position and brand strength with a variety of strategic higher education partners.

The Director of Marketing & Industry Partnerships, will manage a portfolio of Higher Education strategic segment accounts. This individual will work closely with relationship owners across the company. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to strategic segment diagnostics, relationship analysis and engagement planning and execution, annual segment objectives development, wiring plans, formalized client communications, proposal development, customer presentations, and contract negotiations.

The Director of Marketing & Industry Partnerships will report to the Senior Director of Customer Impact.


Where you will make an impact

  • Continuously monitors higher education research and industry dialogue to identify trends in policy, student experience, innovation, and technology
  • Provides points of view on required thought leadership, engagement strategies and content
  • Engages in deep discovery meetings with colleagues as well as external partners to uncover marketing and partnership opportunities
  • Maintains a deep and validated understanding of customer segment pain points and strategic objectives
  • Cultivates a trusted-advisor relationship with customers and industry stakeholders to influence a propensity to partner with Ellucian
  • Possesses a genuine desire and ability to understand the marketplace and changing needs of public and private sector stakeholders
  • Builds alliances and influences key decision makers
  • Develops and maintains Strategic Playbooks for a robust portfolio of strategic segments and ensure they are kept up-to-date, relevant, and transparent to internal stakeholders
  • Works with marketing team members to execute targeted events and structured activities, and rationalize activities where possible
  • Ensures that Ellucian executives are fully prepared to engage in marketing activities successfully
  • Uses deliberate influence strategies to impact, shape, or re-direct the behaviors of others, without formal authority
  • Promotes a spirit of cooperation across Ellucian divisions
  • Executes ‘large account planning’ techniques and skills to ensure strategic company-wide approaches to engaging key market segments including the ability to:
    • develop clear criteria for the prioritization of segments,
    • articulate goals and objectives,
    • identity high-impact strategies (at the segment/account/customer levels)
    • describe success and track results
    • make the case for investment
    • convene senior Ellucian stakeholders to manage resources, course correct priorities, and capitalize on their involvement with segment opportunities
    • help set strategic direction for major market-facing engagements
    • inspire and mobilize cross functional teams to execute strategies
    • look for ways to minimize operational complexity in the execution of strategies
  • Provides day-to-day management and support of a specialist who will support planning and execution

What you will bring

  • 10-14 years of experience marketing, strategic partnerships, and strategy and planning
  • Proven experience consulting, working for major college or university, or leading higher education organization
  • Strong desire to learn and be able to distill large amounts of information into actionable insights
  • Track record of excelling in a multi-threaded environment – balancing needs across multiple projects or stakeholders
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills
  • Strong public speaker preferred
  • Impeccable time management skills
  • Ability to quickly change focus to meet deadlines and special requests
