The Director, Learning and Development reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer, will collaborate closely with cross-functional partners and stakeholders to develop learning strategies and execute leadership development programs that support business objectives and strategic initiatives across functional teams. This role leads and directs the overall learning strategy, design, development and delivery of programs necessary to drive leadership development and performance. Programs may be customized for particular employee segments, such as high potential leaders (in preparation for succession), newly onboarded leaders, or emerging executives.

The Director, Learning and Development must be able to effectively balance the tactical demands of building an HR infrastructure to scale during a growth trajectory with the strategic demands to foster a world-class culture and brand to attract and retain top talent. In this role you will work closely with the CHRO to proactively lead strategy that will strengthen the organization’s ability to drive growth, performance improvement, and operational excellence across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Learning Needs Analysis: Clarifying learning objectives and assessing current and desired skills relative to competency models. Ensuring a full understanding of learning and development needs for specialized roles and business initiatives. Designing, developing, and delivering training strategy and programs aligned to these needs.
  • Learning Program Facilitation: Delivering training and peer-to-peer learning programs that drive learner engagement, on-the-job application, accountability, and business results.
  • Learning Strategy Development: Creating leadership development strategy and designing associated programs that align to strategic business imperatives of particular functions. Planning, developing and/ or implementing programs and content to develop leadership skills and improve overall business performance.
  • Program Evaluation & Optimization: Establishing key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure effectiveness of learning programs, tools, and resources. Using these measures to inform and optimize future curricula and the evolution of training programs.
  • Development Planning: creation of customized development plans for the organization; anticipating and eliminating future skill gaps through incisive L&D planning.
  • Performance Management Process: contributing and supporting the performance management process through ownership of overall development.

Required Education and Experience

  • Strong organizational and project management skills and ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Collaborative and results-oriented individual.
  • At least 10 years of progressive leadership experience with 7 years leading L&D teams.
  • Highly developed project management skills.
  • Experience in both strategy and tactical execution.
  • Experience in evolving L&D offerings as response to internal survey data and other needs analysis.
  • Successful execution of programs spanning large groups of learners over time.
  • Consulting experience.
  • Knowledge of principles of adult learning, instructional design and facilitation techniques, including blended learning, e-learning, etc.
  • Experience building gap analyses and measurement strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence others and accomplish goals within a matrixed environment.
  • Understands and implements change strategy; helps leadership navigate change and achieve sustainable performance.

Preferred Experience and Skills

  • ATD/ASTD Certification.
  • Life Science start-up experience.
  • Ability to manage in a high-volume, fast paced environment.
  • Experience with Workday and other LMS software systems highly desired.
  • Experience in mergers and acquisitions.
  • Advanced degree is preferred.
