This position will be based out of Smithland, KY

Position Title: Director – Hydro Operations and Projects

Reports To: Vice President of Generation Operations & Development

FLSA Status: Exempt

Basic Functions: Responsible for management of the AMP Cannelton and Smithland hydroelectric facilities overall operations and responsible for AMP hydroelectric fleet’s global Operations and Maintenance programs, capital projects and fleet improvements.

Essential Functions:

1. Manages AMP’s Cannelton and Smithland hydroelectric operations, including but not limited to staffing, budgeting, controlling expenses, and providing a safe operating environment.

a. Must be able to present reports to AMP’s Board and Project Participants and produce reports to enable the advancement of AMP’s hydro operations and optimization of the assets.

b. Work with each respective O&M Supervisor to ensure expenses are within budget or proposed budget amendments.

c. Ensures outages are scheduled during optimal time periods to maximize generation and lower $/MWh.

d. Fills in for O&M Supervisor as needed.

e. Supports the due diligence process of new hydro assets that AMP has interest in. This includes but is not limited to projects in the early development stages, but also includes the review and potential acquisition of existing hydro plants.

f. Manages studies related to the generation of hydropower, timing of generation, and flow.

g. Oversees Smithland collective bargaining agreement.

2. Manages AMP’s existing hydroelectric fleet operations:

a. Maintains 10-year operations budget for fleet.

b. Maintain and improve fleet operations and procedures.

c. Creates and/or approves operating reports.

d. Oversees operator qualification program.

e. Responsible for executing the fleet safety program including all programs that include permits.

f. Responsible for executing the fleet environmental programs.

g. Manages studies related to the generation of hydropower, timing of generation, and flow.

3. Manages overall hydroelectric maintenance program

a. Maintains 10 year of fleet maintenance and capital expense budgets.

b. Oversees planned pre-outage coordination meetings.

c. Coordinates similar projects between plants.

d. Ensures the use of the computerized maintenance management system for scheduling and completing job tasks, updating, and creating job plans, modifying maintaining inventory,

e. Evaluates critical spare parts inventory and looks for alternate sources for parts and labor.

f. Evaluates and approves the use of contractors.

4. Interact and coordinate with the Director – Hydro Compliance and Dam Safety

a. Coordination and communication on all compliance and dam safety issues.

b. Provide input on operations of all hydroelectric sites.

c. Fill in for the Director – Hydro Compliance and Dam Safety, as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, & Qualifications:

1. Must have a four-year degree in engineering or engineering technology or must have at least 15 years of electric utility experience, with at least 4 years of hydroelectric power plant experience.

2. Must have at least 4 years of supervisory experience.

3. Previous experience working with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and FERC a plus.

4. Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills.

5. Must be deadline/critical path oriented and have a strong ability to prioritize.

6. Travel may be required up to 50% of the time.

7. Must demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft software; PowerPoint, and project planning software applications is preferred.
