Background about the founder: In late September, Kim Chayka, Co-CEO of Academies of Math and Science (AMS – www.amsschools.org) and AMS Impact Group (https://amsimpact.com/), hired a new CEO and resigned from both of his roles to pursue work that brings him greater fulfillment and better utilizes his strengths. In his tenure at both companies, he scaled AMS from 40 to over 800 employees, from less than $5 to almost $100 million a year in revenue, from serving 500 to almost 9,000 kids each year. During this fast growth, AMS continued to be the top charter school in Arizona as measured by academic outcomes for scholars in at-risk communities. Kim has raised over $150 million in capital, overseen 500,000 square feet of construction, and has a passion for marketing. Prior to the hiring of a COO, he lead the company towards adopting a digital strategy and managing a budget of over $1,500,000 in spend across all ad platforms, the largest digital budget of any Arizona school system. As co-founder of AMS Impact Group LLC, he grew a for-profit organization from $0 to over $10 million in revenue.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Project management of all of the duties listed below. Candidate is not required to be expert in each item below, however, must previously have had responsibility in overseeing vendors and teams to accomplish each item.
  • Developing a strategic marketing plan in collaboration with Kim for maximum results on all marketing efforts. This is a ground-up effort and requires someone with great creativity.
  • Vendors: Vetting, hiring/firing, and overseeing the relationship with all third-party vendors and consultants including on websites such as Upwork.
  • Website / email list management: Development and management and maintenance of websites and email list management.
  • Brand management: Manage the brand’s marketing channels to ensure consistency in look, feel, tone, images, and messaging across website, podcast, Facebook page, Instagram, LinkedIn, email, and others
  • Growing following: Across all social media channels.
  • Partnerships: Creating and managing strategic partnerships to grow brand, cross promotion, etc.
  • Adapting and editing writing/video for multiple marketing channels
  • Marketing calendar posting/engagement:
    • Creating and managing email marketing and drip campaigns, website blog, social media posting calendar and ensuring daily/weekly execution across all channels following best practices such as Gary V’s $1.80 strategy.
  • Paid marketing channels: Oversee all paid marketing channels including on social and search (ideally without the use of a third party)
  • Podcast/speaking: (1) Oversee the production of all podcasts, editing, thumbnails, researching and persuasive reach-out for guests, and marketing strategy. (2) Researching and booking third party podcasts and speaking engagements.
  • Product launch: Book, course launches: Developing and managing launch strategies utilizing multiple methods including influencer marketing, funnels, third party guest podcasts, etc.
  • Editing/Copy: (1) Editing writing for overall interest and readability, technical excellence, cohesiveness, citations (as necessary), adding concrete examples and quotes from genre-related books and authors/influencers. (2) Create copy / sticky and viral titles for distribution in email and paid ads from longer form writing. Additionally, must be able to adapt content from longer form writing into short form across multiple marketing channels such as Instagram, Twitter, etc.
  • Automation tools: Using automation tools to increase the efficiency of any processes that can be automated, such as with Zapier.

  • Excellent succinct, and persuasive written communication.
  • Natural ability in stylistic choices for website, graphics, design
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills. You are frequently the one in a group setting or in complex projects organizing everyone and/or frequently redirecting people's thoughts into logical and actionable steps.
  • Tenacity in following up with people to get what you want. Assertive decision maker, able to advocate for needs and provide feedback with clear and direct language.
  • Basic excel skills with formulas, project management, etc.
  • High capacity to learn independently and generally find yourself understanding material, reading faster, and applying concepts faster than most of the people around you.
  • Experience in small agency or small digital marketing department with all of the duties and responsibilities
  • Great synthesis thinking. Does not get stuck in the weeds or details. Always zooms out for clarity and to understand what the purpose is of the work being performed.
  • Pride in work and obsessed with details. Can't stand to see things done wrong or below quality.
  • Self-development and marketing are crafts and passions for you that you are obsessed with and think about both during the day and outside the day.
