Your job in a nutshell

As Development Scientist you will aid in process development and assay support, including troubleshooting and assay transfer activities, in support of the CLIA laboratory at SkylineDx USA. You will work closely with a wide variety of departments including but not limited to the development and clinical laboratory teams, SkylineDx BV research and development, laboratory management and quality. The Development Scientist will be performing work in our offices in San Diego, California and reports to the Senior Manager, Development.

Together we ensure the validation and implementation of clinically relevant scientific discoveries into reliable medical diagnostic assays for diagnosis, prognosis and drug effectiveness prediction that will ultimately contribute to improved patient care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Train to all relevant assay SOPs related to the job function and adhere to all rules and protocols.
  • Be proficient in current clinical assays with the ability to be utilized as a subject matter expert.
  • Participate in clinical project teams. Play an integral role in the transfer and launch of products from SkylineDx BV Research and Development team for use in SkylineDx USA CAP/CLIA accredited laboratory in San Diego.
  • Review, plan, set-up, and execute protocols to support or troubleshoot current clinical assays.
  • Plan and develop process improvements to help streamline laboratory efficiency and decrease COGS.
  • Write and/or revise laboratory procedures.
  • Provide training to laboratory staff on new products prior to transfer.
  • Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results.
  • Collaborate with key departments to define/deliver study-specific plans.
  • Assist in preparation of validation documentation of new tests and procedures, where needed.
  • Provide support for quality audits and vendor selection as needed.
  • Maintain the privacy and confidentiality of personal information according to HIPPA guidelines.

You have

  • PhD degree in molecular biology, biological sciences or a related field (candidates with a MS and equivalent work experience will be also considered).
  • Experience in clinical development or translational sciences in the oncology field preferred.
  • Advanced experience in molecular techniques such as DNA and RNA extraction, PCR, microarray or NGS technology.
  • Familiarity of molecular diagnostics, assay validation, and statistics.
  • Experience in scaling a clinical laboratory preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills and creative approach to problem solving.
  • Proven self-starter that works well in a start-up environment.
  • A hands-on mentality and result oriented attitude.
