POSITION SUMMARY:


Full-time opening available in the Marathon County Clerk of Courts’ Office. Position provides a variety of legal services to support the judicial system and provides service to the public. The individual hired must be dependable, flexible, well organized, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be customer service focused, team oriented, and able to learn a variety of office functions..



QUALIFICATIONS:


High school diploma or equivalent and two years office support experience required. A vocational diploma or an associate’s degree in a related field may substitute for the experience. Previous legal office experience is desirable.



EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:


  • Performs a variety of duties related to case management including case initiation, receiving and electronically filing case documents, docketing from court minutes, and all case closing activities using an integrated automated computer system (CCAP).
  • Works with legal professionals, litigants, media, other County employees, and the public, requiring effective communication skills.
  • Assists the public at the counter and over the phone.
  • Receives payments as required and accurately enters information into automated financial system.
  • Prepares files for scanning.
  • Operates varied office equipment including computers, copiers, scanners, etc.
  • Develops solutions to work issues that add value for our customers.
  • Participation in establishing professional development goals that are supportive of broader County goals.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance; works extra hours as required.
  • Performs related work as required.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:


  • Knowledge of general office procedures and standard recordkeeping procedures.
  • Knowledge of business English and correct grammar and spelling.
  • Knowledge of the general workings and functions of the court system, and knowledge of legal terms.
  • Skill in completing basic arithmetical computations, identifying errors, and keeping a variety of accurate records.
  • Skill in various computer applications. Ability to learn new software programs.
  • Ability to learn multiple step clerical procedures and perform them accurately and correctly.
  • Ability to gain an understanding of the specific operations of the Clerk of Courts’ Office, and contribute to the accomplishment of the department objectives.
  • Ability to assume responsibility for office procedures, and demonstrate ability to dispose of routine matters and make decisions within established guidelines without frequent referral to a supervisor.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to clearly articulate and accurately transmit information both from the public to department staff members and from the department to the client/public served.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public. Ability to work as a team member within the office.
  • Ability to perform moderately complex work, free of error, requiring a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Understanding of the County’s and department’s mission, core values, plans, and priorities for the future.
  • Ability to contribute to a positive work culture that fosters excellent customer service & teamwork.


COMPENSATION:


Salary range: Minimum:$20.12 - Market:$22.53 - Maximum:$28.17
