Associate Dean of Students at Brookline High School


Job Description The Associate Dean of Students is a 1.0 non-supervisory Unit A administrative position with a teaching responsibility determined by the Head of School and the Dean of Students. The Associate Dean monitors and supports the educational development of students under their jurisdiction and serves on the Dean of Students’ administrative team. The Associate Dean is responsible for establishing strong relationships with the student body, faculty, and parent community.

The Associate Dean will be responsible for the effective:


Monitoring and Supporting the Educational Development of Every Student

Support high expectations for academic achievement with a focus on educational equity; collaborate with school leaders to identify and eliminate barriers to educational achievement.

  • Develop school wide common practices in collaboration with school leaders that ensure fair and just educational opportunities and experiences for all students.
  • Monitor and intervene to address individual student and larger school attendance issues.
  • Support socio-emotional and behavioral growth through preventative educational experiences as well as disciplinary and restorative practices.
  • Coordinate school-wide activities and assembly programs.
  • Support students with academic planning and socio-emotional development by working closely with school counselors, teachers, and curriculum coordinators.

Development of a Sense of Affiliation for Every Student

  • Contribute to and support the school-wide advisory program.
  • Plan and coordinate class activities in partnership with associate deans.
  • Monitor the participation and engagement of every student under their jurisdiction.
  • Cultivate a positive school culture and climate that fosters a pervasive sense of safety and belonging and highlights school mantras.

Other Responsibilities Include:

  • Teaching responsibility.
  • Works with the Dean of Students to plan and coordinate class PTO meetings.
  • Works with the High School Administrative Team to supervise the campus.
  • Works with the Dean of Students and Advisory Teacher-Leader to support the Advisory

program.

  • Works with the Dean of Students and Advisory Teacher-Leader to select Junior and Senior Mentors and to design and implement training related to these programs.
  • Plans and supervises Class activities, including Junior Semi, Senior Prom, and After- the-Prom Party.
  • Coordinates school-wide activities and assembly programs for assigned grades.
  • Support Bullying, Title VI, Title IX, and other school-based investigations with support from the Dean of Student Support Systems.
  • Other responsibilities assigned by the Dean of Students.

Qualification:

  • A Massachusetts DESE teaching license is required.
  • At the minimum, a Masters Degree in a relevant discipline.
  • At least five years experience as a professional in a school setting, preferably with

successful teaching and/or administrative experience.

  • Successful experience with a broad spectrum of students and parents.
  • Excellent speaking and writing skills.

Work Year:

183 days, plus 7 additional days at per diem rate.


Stipend

This position also comes with a stipend as per BEU contract.
