Purpose/Introduction

Chevron Phillips Chemical is currently seeking a DCS Specialist to join our team on the Golden Triangle Polymers Project. This is an exciting opportunity to utilize your experience and be part of a team contributing to the design, startup, and operations of a new plant from the ground up. The successful candidate will assist with design, testing and commissioning of Industrial Controls and Safety Systems (ICSS), Package Equipment Control Systems (PECS), and Operator Training Systems (OTS) for two new polyethylene (PE) units, ultimately filling a DCS Specialist position at the new facility.

This position will initially report out of The Woodlands Project Office before transitioning to Orange, TX as part of the Operations following startup.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in project ICSS, PECS, and OTS Systems FATs/SATs as required.
  • Support Alarm Documentation and Rationalization activities.
  • Review and provide feedback on EPC and MAC project documentation.
  • Provide input, assistance, and troubleshooting with pre-commissioning and commissioning activities to ensure all PAS and third-party control systems meet PAS and Company requirements prior to initial startup.
  • Provide support for Safety Instrumented System and instrumented independent protection layer lifecycle management including proof testing.
  • Create and provide instruction for training Operations, I&E Maintenance, and technical personnel as part of operational readiness activities.
  • Develop, improve, and implement graphics, alarms, and control strategies that improve plant safety, environmental, profitability and/or efficiency performance.
  • Engage in Process Safety Management (PSM) by participating in the Management of Change process including hazard reviews, HAZOP and LOPA studies, action item follow-up, and PSSRs.
  • Support site in control system off-hour call out duties as needed.
  • Maintain open and effective communications on and across shifts within the department, unit leadership, and other operating/functional support staffs.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree or technical certification in electrical, instrumentation or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of DCS, SIS, PLC, hardware and software configuration and maintenance experience in refining or petrochemical manufacturing facilities.
  • Proficiency in reading and understanding design documents such as P&IDs, instrument loop drawings, schematics, logic diagrams, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft operating systems and applications.
  • Ability to interact effectively with internal and external organizations such as operations, instrument/electrical/analyzer maintenance, engineering, plant management, consultants, and vendors.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4 years or more of DCS, SIS, PLC, hardware and software configuration and maintenance experience
  • Have participated in and performed FATs/SATs
  • Polyethylene and/or Ethylene manufacturing processes experience
  • Emerson DeltaV or other DCS experience
  • Allen-Bradley, Triconex, or similar PLC experience
  • Safety system lifecycle management experience
  • Microsoft Network Administration Certifications experience
  • Computer Hardware Virtualization experience
  • Hands-on experience with field instrumentation installations, loop checks, and troubleshooting
  • Hands-on experience with motor control installations, function checks and troubleshooting
