Who we Seek

La Casa de Don Pedro seeks a Custodian I that supports the Maintenance Technician in assisting with maintaining the cleanliness and maintenance/repairs of our grounds and facilities. To be successful in this role, the Custodial I should be able to work with minimal supervision and must be able to perform manual labor and operate various types of tools and equipment safely and efficiently. Custodian I will serve as an integral member of the Administrative Office and will contribute to the overall efficiency of La Casa de Don Pedro by providing personalized and timely support.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Provide coverage for custodians when needed.

· Assist Maintenance Technician with completing work orders.

· Fix minor plumbing and electrical issues.

· Steam-clean or shampoo rugs and carpets.

· Maintain landscape by sweeping walkways, raking leaves, watering, cutting, trimming shrubs and grass.

· Mow and trim lawns and shrubbery, using mowers and hand and power trimmers, clear debris and overgrown vegetation from grounds, power wash and remove debris from outdoor playground equipment and outdoor facility. Perform other incidental seasonal tasks.

· Remove debris and snow from sidewalks, driveways, parking lot areas, using snow blowers, and snow shovels and spread snow-melting chemicals.

· Report damages, incidents, and facility issues that may lead to unsafe hazards.

· Monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors and checking electrical appliances used to ensure that hazards are not created.

· Replace, clean and/or secure all stained, broken and/or missing ceiling tiles, floor tiles and carpeting.

· Eliminate moisture result from leaks or seepage.

· Ensure window blinds are in good condition, repaired when necessary and blind cords are inaccessible to children.

· Ensure janitors secure all doors, windows, and gates daily.

· Change/replace light bulbs and emergency exit lights on a frequent basis.

· Install protective covers for electrical outlets, fluorescent tubes and incandescent light bulbs and fans.

· Maintain a minimum of 68 degrees Fahrenheit in all areas used by children.

· Ensure that doors in all interior rooms designated for use by children remain unlocked.

· Perform minor repairs such as installing shelves, plastering, sheetrock, nailing, repairing, or painting surfaces in specified areas.

· Ensure shelving is secure and not overloaded, and appliances are secured to a stable surface.

· Ensure that stairways are free of tripping hazards.

· Maintain indoor/outdoor garbage receptacles are covered, emptied as needed, leak proof and clean.

· Ensure that indoor and outdoor equipment is sturdy, safe, free of hazards, and used in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.

· Assists with the opening, separation, distribution, and storing of all incoming packages of food, water, furniture, and office supplies deliveries.

· Change air filters and cleaning vents.

· Required to use equipment, machinery including electrostatic sprayer, commercial vacuums, floor buffers and carpet cleaners.

· Perform routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.

· Wash exterior windows.

· Move heavy furniture, equipment, boxes, and supplies, either manually or by using handheld trucks.

· Set-up, arrange, and remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, to prepare facility for company meetings and events.

· Administers and observes the organization’s office operations, policies, and procedures.

Educational, Required Skills and Experience Requirements:

· High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

· Three years of janitorial and custodian type work in an office or facility setting.

· New Jersey driver’s license required along with a good driver’s license records.

· Bilingual (English/Spanish).

· OSHA Certified a plus.

· NJ Black Seal license a plus.

· Must pass background chck.

· Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees.

· Good working knowledge of safety practices.

· Perform duties in a professional manner.

· Ability to communicate effectively both in written and verbal instruction form.

· Knowledge of different cleaning products and tools.

· Time-management and multitasking abilities.

· Must have good organization and interpersonal skills.

· Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Physical Requirements:

· Ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists.

· Ability to use your abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time.

· Ability to use hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things.

· Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.

· Ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.

· Ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull or carry objects.

· Ability to stand and walk for long periods.

· Ability to lift and move over 50 pounds.

· Physical strength and stamina.

· Must be able to perform manual labor and operate various types of tools and equipment safely and efficiently.

· Must be able to work in varying weather conditions.

Compensation, Schedule, and Other Information:

· Employment type:Full-Time

· FLSA status: Non-Exempt

· Reports to: Facility Director/Maintenance Technician

· Schedule:Monday – Friday, 10:00am – 6pm (Work schedule will vary. Must have the ability to work evenings and weekends and tend to emergencies outside of normal weekdays and hours)

· Compensation: $19.23 per hour
