Job description

Part-time, hourly position up to 20 hours weekly. Your primary responsibility is to maintain and oversee various aspects of maintenance and custodial upkeep of St. Peter’s Parish buildings, grounds and equipment as assigned.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Maintain floors in a clean state by sweeping, scrubbing, mopping, and waxing them.
• Empty and clean trash receptacles and collect recycling.
• Clean, sanitize, and supply bathrooms.Clean and service custodial equipment as needed.
• Report any safety, sanitary, or fire hazards to the appropriate department.
• Lock and unlock windows and doors.
• Ensure grounds areas are clean and orderly.
• Is responsible for all snow removal from parking lots, driveways and sidewalks at St. Peter’s locations as directed by Facilities Manager in the winter months, including accomplishing and maintaining record of shoveling and plowing.
• Performs lawn maintenance in the summer months, including fertilizing and mowing lawns, trimming trees and bushes, etc. around parish buildings.
• Maintains buildings and equipment in state of repair to provide continuous effective operations.
• Maintains flexible work schedule to work evenings and weekends, as needed, particularly during winter and snow removal season.
• A valid New York State Motor Vehicle Driver’s License is required.
• Any other duties as may be directed by the Pastor and/or Facilities Director.

Qualifications for Custodian

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
• Previous custodial and grounds experience preferred
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
• Comfortable squatting, twisting, bending, and kneeling while using tools and performing maintenance tasks
• Possess working knowledge of the methods, technique, and materials used in custodial work
• Ability to climb ladders and work from heights
