THIS JOB IS NOT FULL TIME. It is a part-time position, and time is primarily spent working on nights and weekends.

Crisis Responders help facilitate Ampersand’s crisis response services for survivors of sexual violence in the 17-county Bluegrass Area Development District. Crisis responders are trained to provide on-call support to individuals at local emergency rooms, law enforcement agencies and on our mobile unit through crisis intervention, information, and referrals. Crisis responders also answer our 24-hour support line and provide supervisory support to Ampersand volunteers after hours.

Shifts available are weekdays 5pm-9am and weekends 9am-9pm or 9pm-9am. Crisis Responders sign up for shifts as they are available. The minimum is 3 shifts per month and the maximum is 96 hours per month (this could be 6-8 shifts, depending on the shift lengths). Currently, weekday coverage is the most needed.

Hourly Rate:

While on call: $10-$10.50

While actively working: $15-$15.50

Primary Duties:

  • Accompaniment services to survivors of sexual violence in the 17-county Bluegrass Area Development District.
  • Support survivors of sexual violence on-site at area hospital emergency rooms and law enforcement agencies by providing on-site crisis intervention, information, and support. Services are also provided to family members and friends of the survivor.
  • Drive and provide advocacy on our mobile medical unit
  • Answer Ampersand’s 24-hour support line when there is not volunteer coverage
  • Provide support, information and referrals to callers
  • Dispatch medical advocate and Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner to local hospitals
  • Support Ampersand volunteers as they provide advocacy and counseling to survivors of sexual violence.
  • Fielding of basic volunteer questions regarding Ampersand’s policies and procedures, as outlined in the Volunteer Guidelines and Policy Handbook and Volunteer Manual.
  • Fielding of basic volunteer questions regarding Ampersand services.
  • Providing as-needed support to Ampersand volunteers in hospital and law enforcement settings.
  • Consulting with the Volunteer Coordinator regarding policy and procedure as needed.
  • Comply with HIPAA guidelines and Ampersand Confidentiality Policy when handling patient health information.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum 20 years of age
  • Have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and the appropriate level of auto insurance
  • Willingness to drive in 17-county Bluegrass Area Development District
  • Willingness to be available primarily on the weekends and overnight, and occasionally on holidays
  • Willingness to learn to drive our 30 ft mobile medical unit
  • Access to personal mobile phone
  • Ability to pass a background and reference check
  • Commit to taking at least three shifts per month for one full year
  • Complete 12 continuing education hours annually
  • Willingness to take an intersectional, anti-oppression approach to your work and have a basic understanding of privilege
  • Complete 40-hours of training

The start date will be determined based upon the successful completion of training, which begins in August.
