Corporate Relations Manager
The Corporate Relations Manager is responsible for managing the overall Detroit Zoological Society sponsorship program, soliciting all sponsorship deals, and helping to maximize corporate revenue through sponsorships and philanthropy. The Corporate Relations Manager will work closely with Development colleagues as well as the Marketing and Events Teams.

The Director of Individual Philanthropy will support, both publicly and privately, the principles and mission of the DZS. They will support, adhere to, and enforce DZS policies and standards, and will always demonstrate a high level of integrity and professionalism.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Develop and implement strategies for maximizing sponsorship and corporate revenue.
  • Identify and continually update prospect list.
  • Work with Development colleagues to ensure a coordinated approach to corporate sponsorship and philanthropy.
  • Prepare sponsorship materials – proposals, contracts, and promotional agreements.
  • Conduct value assessment for event proposals and partnership packages.
  • Arrange meetings with interested sponsor prospects.
  • Tailor sponsorship materials and promotional programs to targeted categories and companies.
  • Negotiate sponsorships and review all deals. Secure approval for any departures from
  • pre-approved rights and benefits.
  • Work with sponsorship management companies in identifying prospects and selling sponsorships.
  • Create sponsorship timetables well in advance of scheduled events.
Ensure that contracts and commitments to sponsors are fulfilled.
  • Monitor and work within graphic standards for logo usage, promotional restrictions and sponsor recognition to ensure fees paid are proportionate to benefits delivered.
  • Review and approve final sponsor-identified materials, including advertisements, news releases, promotional and program-related materials.
  • Meet with communications, membership, retail, guest relations, and volunteer services to secure benefits that are incorporated into sponsorship packages.
  • Provide sponsors with a measurement of their return on investment.
  • Greet and cultivate sponsors at sponsored events.
  • All other responsibilities and tasks as assigned by the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • A bachelor’s degree in marketing, sales, advertising, business administration, or a related field of study.
  • Three years of sponsorship, sales, advertising, fundraising, or marketing experience.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Professional communication skills, including written and verbal, and an ability to persuade.
  • Must be very well organized with strong time management skills and must be detail oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities concurrently.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Have very good reasoning, decision-making, organization, and problem-solving skills. Previous work experience in a professional office environment.
  • Must exhibit initiative and teamwork.
Working Conditions
Regular work schedule may include weekends or may be required to work occasional evenings, weekends, and early-mornings. The work environment is generally comfortable and most work is indoors although the position may require work outdoors with exposure to seasonal weather conditions for special events, tours, openings, etc.

Physical Requirements
This position requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, and stooping for extended periods, the ability to lift and move up to 20 pounds and the use of standard office equipment and the computer.
