GENERAL FUNCTION AND JOB DUTIES

Coordinator/Instructor position is available in the Basic Skills department located on Central Campus, North Classroom Building.

This is a Grant Funded position.


Anticipted Hire Date: January 3, 2023

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday;8:00am - 4:00pm

Hours per Week: 40


The College and Career Readiness literacy education programs include Adult Basic Education (ABE), English as a Second Language (ESL), and Adult Secondary Education (ASE).


General Function


Plans and coordinates all aspects of assigned programs at various campus and community-based locations; manages the activities of faculty and staff; oversees curriculum development and innovative delivery design.


Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

1. Demonstrates proficiency in teaching using multiple tools and approaches, applying up-to-date content knowledge in the discipline being taught, classroom management, communicating regularly with students and responding in a timely manner to student needs.

2. Provides orientation, direction, support, training, and supervision for faculty and staff; initiates recruiting and interviewing faculty; prepares recommendations for hiring faculty and staff; makes recommendations regarding disciplinary actions including termination; establishes and monitors employee performance objectives.

3. Prepares documentation for the origination of classes; schedules dates, rooms and instructors; reviews class schedule for accuracy.

4. Monitors course offerings and recommends additions, changes and deletions to keep program area current; coordinates the development of curriculum, course outlines and materials.

5. Provides coordination and oversees administrative operations for CCR, such as accurate completion of forms, online attendance and CODs; audits course documents and attendance; prepares and posts course syllabi.

6. Teaches courses within the assigned area; models effective teaching techniques for instructors.

7. Advises students on a variety of academic and administrative matters.

8. Ensures faculty and staff understand and follow State and National Reporting Systems guidelines including the State Assessment Policy.

9. Keeps up-to-date with all requirements, guidelines and policies provided by the North Carolina Community College Systems Office.

10. Reviews needs for equipment, supplies and instructional materials and recommends purchase.

11. Assesses professional development needs of faculty and staff to ensure that they remain current on evidence-based practices; provides tools and support for faculty and staff to monitor and analyze student and class data and initiate program improvement strategies.

12. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience teaching Basic Skills or a related area

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary for this position is $42,935-$88,266. Pay grade for this position is K. Initial placement for new employees is customarily at entry level through 25% percentile. Contract type is Professional. Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include off-shift hours, evening and weekend assignments may be required of any position. All positions are subject to budget approval.
