POSITION SUMMARY

The Kitchen Assistant will further the mission of Roundup River Ranch by supporting daily kitchen and foodservice utility needs to ensure the highest standards of food preparation, service, safety and sanitation are met to support the medical safety and dietary needs of all campers, staff and volunteers

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Ensure all aspects of the kitchen and dining areas are organized and sanitary before, during and after each meal service
• Assist with unloading of food deliveries and proper storage of food and goods
• Support daily maintenance and cleaning of kitchen equipment and systems
• Completion of daily cleaning/sanitizing schedules, temperature logs, chemicals, etc
• Work in partnership with kitchen staff and volunteers assigned to kitchen duties
• Assist camp staff and volunteers with procedures for safe and sanitary meal set up, service, and clean up
• Clean and sanitize dining areas, floors and furniture after meal service
• Clean all food service and preparation items using automated commercial dishwasher
• Maintain clean and sanitary bathrooms, before during and after meal service and other cookhouse activties
• Replenish bathroom and handwash station supplies
• Remove trash from dining, kitchen and bathroom areas
• Follow standard precautions and use PPE for clean-up of bodily fluids and syringe disposal units
• Comply with State of Colorado requirements, SeriousFun Children’s Network criteria and American Camp Association standards
• Other duties as assigned.

• Roundup River Ranch camp staff will be expected to:
• Be able to identify emergency situations, either by seeing them happen, hearing cries for help, or hearing the emergency alert siren and bell.
• Have the strength, endurance, and physical skills to respond quickly and appropriately to emergency situations, according to written emergency procedures and plans, which may include calling for help, running distances up to a half-mile, and watching to see if campers are responding.
• Be able to demonstrate or participate in kitchen tasks and camp activities: this will require the ability to walk, sit, climb, kneel, crouch, stoop, and stand.
• Be able to move items in the kitchen and around the camp facility: this will require the strength and mobility to push, pull, lift, and carry items up to 50 pounds.
• Possess the strength and stamina to maintain constant vigilance for the duration of the season. Such work requires the ability to observe what campers and volunteers are doing, and the ability to hear what others are saying when nearby but not necessarily within direct visual contact. Stamina includes the ability to remain alert, friendly, courteous, and patient for the duration of the staff member’s time at camp.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience working in a commercial kitchen is beneficial
• Ability to obtain ServSafe Certification
• Ability to work in a facility that is smoke free, tobacco free, alcohol free, and drug free (including medical and recreational marijuana)
• Passion for the Roundup River Ranch Mission

Special requirements: The Cookhouse Assistant is not required to be residential at the campsite in Gypsum, CO. However, must be available to support the needs of the Kitchen including being available to support anytime when camp is in session.
