Job description

Ames National Corporation (ANC), a multi-bank holding company located in central Iowa, is looking for an experienced Controller to join the team! This individual will assist in coordinating the financial activities of the Company and affiliate banks related to coordinating and performing accounting functions, financial reporting, regulatory reporting, financial planning, budget reporting and financial audit/tax related activities. This position may primarily be located in Ames, or Ankeny, IA. ANC offers a comprehensive benefit package. We look forward to working with you!


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Financial Planning, Reporting and Budgeting

  • Assists with preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to meet management, regulatory and SEC requirements. Reports include, but are not limited to monthly financial reports, Federal Reserve Reports, Form 10-Q, Form 10-K, and other SEC reports.
  • Assists CFO and performs accounting functions relating to general ledger, acquisitions, SEC reporting and regulatory reporting activities.
  • Assists affiliate bank cashiers with accounting and regulatory questions.
  • Oversees portions of the bi-weekly payroll function related to accounting.
  • Conducts a monthly review of affiliate bank general ledgers, condensed balance sheets and income statements and budgeted balance sheets and income statements.
  • Assists with income tax planning, including initiation and monitoring efforts to minimize the organization's tax liability.
  • Assists with the Company's annual budget and quarterly consolidated budget reports.
  • Maintains fixed asset book and tax accounting for ANC and affiliate banks.
  • Approves changes to the general ledger accounts or systems for ANC or affiliate banks.
  • Performs an annual review of ANC and affiliate banks other assets and other liability accounts.


Internal Controls

  • Assists with the establishment and maintenance of internal controls and related policies and procedures.
  • Ensures FDICIA documentation is adequate and timely prepared for external auditors.
  • Conducts an annual review of internal controls to ensure necessary procedures and controls are in place and functioning to ensure accurate and complete financial reporting.
  • Stays aware of new and changed processes to test the adequacy of controls associated with these new or changed processes.


Holding Company and Government Reporting

  • Completes and submits required consolidated Federal Reserve financial reports, including the FR Y-9SP, FR-Y 6 and FR Y-10, as needed.
  • Maintains accurate general ledger records and financial reporting for ANC.


Additional Duties

  • Assists in the preparation of the affiliate banks allowance for credit loss calculation and the footnotes in relationship to the allowance for credit losses.
  • Limited branch accounting reporting and quarterly financial reporting for First National Bank.
  • Prepares internal consolidated financial reports.
  • Assists in gathering data for external audits, income tax and regulatory work papers (for Form 10-K and Form 10-Q).
  • Participates in special projects to improve processes associated with Controller job duties.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • 5+ years' experience with financial institutions in the accounting area or public accounting experience.
  • CPA certification.
  • Public company experience preferred.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of preparing SEC reports, including Form 10-Q, Form 10-K, Proxy Statement, Form 3, Form 4, Form 5 and Form 8-k.
  • Banking knowledge in the areas of financial planning, reporting, budgeting, and internal controls.
  • Advanced computer literacy, including knowledge of Microsoft 365.
  • Knowledge of banking procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated analytical decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work independently or in groups.
  • Ability to handle conflict and resolve employee issues.
