Summary:

This role is responsible for best practices in manufacturing, supporting continuous improvement procedures, as well as minimizing waste and reducing tooling costs to improve efficiency. The lean manufacturing engineer works with employees and management to enhance productivity and quality standards, is responsible for implementing the manufacturing goals and objectives of the business, and manages various projects to reduce manufacturing costs by instituting continuous improvement methodologies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • To facilitate continuous improvement projects using techniques such as Kaizen, 5’S, TPM, Kanban and line balancing.
  • To support the delivery of better value and greater efficiency through the identification and elimination of unnecessary complexity within manufacturing and supporting processes.
  • To identify wastes of system overburden and unevenness through value stream mapping, time and motion studies.
  • To utilize Lean and Six Sigma techniques to identify and eliminate process wastes throughout the system.
  • To apply 5 Whys and PDCA methodologies on manufacturing equipment and assembly processes to identify root cause for recurring quality defects and development of effective corrective actions.
  • To drive process change using interviews, workshops, surveys, workflow analyses using value stream mapping.
  • To actively monitor manufacturing metrics, including but not limited to OEE, Scrap, Downtime, etc. Identify potential problems and proactively help implement corrective action solutions.
  • To identify ongoing lean improvement training needs and assist with developing and implementing the required training.
  • To develop and maintain annual value stream mapping efforts, CI plans, and calendars.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 3 to 5 years of related industry experience required.
  • Practical knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and methods, and project management methods in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, schedule, lead, evaluate, and complete Continuous Improvement activities.
  • Demonstrated problem analysis and solving, and process improvement skills.
  • Lean - Six Sigma working experience. Certification or relevant education is a plus.

Proven analysis and presentation skills including use of common tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint along with more advanced tools such as Minitab.
