Job Title: Construction Manager

Department: Project Management

Location: Pleasanton, CA preferred, Dallas, TX ok or Remote acceptable DOE

The ideal candidate will be:

An experienced construction management professional responsible for overseeing labor subcontractors (structural steel and decking installation) on multiple projects throughout the US. The Construction Manager serves as the Company Executive representative at worksites as needed in dealings with Owners, General Contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and inspectors. You are responsible for the onsite portion of the projects subcontracted to local contractors, which includes training, compliance, and providing progress updates to appropriate management on a regular basis. The mission is to complete the project on time, on budget, safely, and to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction.

You have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in construction management or engineering or exceptional experience.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in the construction industry, with 5 years in structural steel.
  • An understanding of structural steel construction processes including managing erection subcontractors (labor only), scheduling, planning, and execution.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with hands-on construction field experience.
  • General knowledge of construction methods and technologies with the ability to interpret technical drawings and contracts.
  • Ability to learn when required local building code requirements.
  • Ability to manage multiple project subcontractors simultaneously with a constant eye on quality.
  • Knowledge of jobsite safety practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills with the ability to effectively function as a team.
  • Ability and self-confidence to make key decisions, with self-awareness to consult guidance when needed.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Some experience with MRP software, e.g., FabSuite, FabTrol, etc. a plus.
  • Experience with scheduling software preferred, e.g., Microsoft Project, Primavera, or similar.
  • Ability to travel to project sites as needed – travel is 50% of the job.
  • Certified Construction Manager (CCM), Associate Constructor (AC), and Certified Professional Constructor (CPC) designations preferred.

What you’ll be doing:

As a Construction Manager, you’ll:

  • Work closely with clients, owners, architects, and subcontractors to develop lasting relationships over time.
  • Manage and oversee worksite projects through subcontractors to assure project goals and objectives are met.
  • Provide direction to general contractors, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Coordinate closely with company Project Managers to liaise between engineers, architects and others working on the project.
  • Prepare and manage estimates, budgets, timetables, and resources.
  • Proactively identify, mitigate, and track recurring construction issues.
  • Ensure subcontractor adherence to legal requirements and building and safety codes.
  • Attend coordination and progress meetings; make regular trips to sites during construction.
  • Maintain and update preconstruction documents and monitor contract obligations with the intention of building relationships with reliable contractors and vendors.
  • Respond to work delays, emergencies, and other project disruptions.

Where you’ll be working:

The majority of our projects are on the west coast with others spread throughout the US. You’ll either be based from our company headquarters in Pleasanton and traveling to respective jobsites, or for the right candidate, we will consider basing the job at a satellite office or remote (home) based office.
