The Construction EHS Director is responsible for working with the Panasonic Energy Leadership Team to ensure the organization is operating in a way that safeguards human health and protects the environment. This position will continually be working to infuse Safety and Environmental Stewardship with the goal of exhibiting those measures through Panasonic Energy’s products and services. The Director’s responsibility is to oversee the overall EHS project for the construction site developing and maintaining systems and processes that ensure stewardship of safety and sustainability for the organization. It is critical that the individual earns trust at all levels and can work with and influence senior leadership as well as build and maintain a close working relationship with Panasonic headquarters’ Safety and Environmental Departments.

Essential Duties:

  • Oversees the overall EHS program for the project site.
  • Oversees the EHS programs of all contractors on the site to ensure compliance with the Panasonic EHS Program.
  • Provides reports required by company or regulatory stakeholders.
  • Conducts safety meetings, audits, and inspections to ensure compliance, evaluate performance, identify corrective action, and implement follow up assessments.
  • Plans, implements, and conducts preventative care, safety, and compliance training programs.
  • Plans, implements, manages, and maintains comprehensive environmental safety & health programs on premises or at project site locations.
  • Provides project management team with guidance on health and safety and confirm project site fulfills industry, local, state, and federal guidelines, and regulations.
  • Collaborates with management to develop an Emergency Action Plan and serve as primary contact for project site injury and incident notification, investigation, and case management. Maintains a written log of safety inspection activities, reports, and correspondence.
  • Guarantees that all work is performed in accordance with approved manuals, internal policies and procedures, contract documents, and good engineering practices.
  • Provides technical support to project managers.
  • Develops and maintains project cost/change controls, and project budget and accounting records.
  • Coordinates and monitors schedule updates, invoices, and submittals.
  • Reports the status of projects to business and market leaders.
  • Participates in team meetings and provides regular on-site project presence.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements:

  • To ensure the health and safety in the workplace and for the protection of our employee’s, wearing PPE is a possibility and may include equipment such as a full Tyvek suit, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, face mask, bump cap, and a full hazmat suit that includes a respirator.

Qualifications: Requirements - Required and/or Preferred

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Health, Engineering, or related discipline preferred
  • Minimum 10 years large scale commercial, government, or industrial project management experience, including at least 5 years management level safety profession experience
  • Current certifications in First Aid, CPR, OSHA, 30-hour Construction Safety and Industry Standards plus familiarity with DOE 10 CFR Part 851 highly desirable

  • Proven leadership skills including team building, collaborating, accountability, strategic and innovative thinking
  • Strong communication skills – written, verbal and presentation
  • Ability to take innovative approaches to improve processes and solve problems
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to analyze and revise operating practices to improve efficiency
  • Self-starter with high-energy and a curious approach
  • Ability to understand different cultures to establish reliable and effective communication within a diverse and complicated environment
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and requirements in the US
  • Skills in MS Office (Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook)
  • Multi-site and global experience are highly desirable
