Introduction


The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Division of Public Safety and Resource Protection is recruiting to fill their Park Falls Conservation Warden Team Supervisor (Natural Resources Law Enforcement Supervisor) vacancy.

This position will supervise the Park Falls Warden Team. The position will be headquartered out of an available office location within its team, including: Price, Rusk, and Sawyer Counties; please select one or more of these headquarters count(ies) that work for you during the application process. This position is being re-announced to allow the addition of Rusk County as a potential headquarters location.

Position Summary


The position is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of the Law Enforcement program and for overseeing the operations and planning for the assigned team. They will establish, coordinate and monitor team law enforcement program activities to ensure work plan objectives are met, policies and guidance are adhered to and that integration and coordination with other teams and programs occurs. The Conservation Warden Supervisor will also be responsible for enforcing natural resource and environmental laws as needed.

Salary Information


The position is in pay schedule-range 81-03 with a starting salary of $86,902 annually, or $41.78 hourly, plus great benefits. The position is not represented by a collective bargaining unit. A 12-month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.

Job Details


Must meet the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board certification requirements as a law enforcement officer. If not currently working for the Wisconsin Department of Resource’s Division of Public Safety and Resource Protection, will be required to attend an abbreviated Department of natural resources academy, 20 weeks of field training and several specialized training weeks throughout their first two years of employment.

OR

Must be eligible for certification through the Wisconsin Department of Justice reciprocity program. Once hired, must successfully pass the Wisconsin Department of Justice reciprocity exam within first 12 months of employment. If not currently working for the Wisconsin Department of Resource’s Division of Public Safety and Resource Protection, will be required to attend an abbreviated Department of natural resources academy, 20 weeks of field training and several specialized training weeks throughout their first two years of employment.

Additionally, appointment may be subject to successful completion of the following: physical fitness assessments, background investigation, psychological testing, drug screen, and medical evaluation.

Upon appointment, must possess certification in ATV, Boating, and Snowmobile Safety and possess a valid driver’s license with no OWI (Operating While Intoxicated) convictions within one year, and no more than two (2) moving violations or at fault accidents within the past two years. Online courses are available at Safety Education – Wisconsin.

All Warden Supervisors shall have their primary residence and live in the state as follows:
1. Within their administrative area and 50 miles or less of their workstation, OR
2. Fifty (50) driving miles or less of their workstation AND within 10 driving miles of their administrative area boundary.

Employment will require the selected candidate to pass a background check. DNR does not sponsor work visas, thus, in compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Newly hired employees will be required to submit this information within their first two weeks of employment. Qualifications


Please make sure to describe the following qualifications within your resume and/or letter of qualifications in order to be considered for this position:

Minimally qualified candidates must have each of the following:

  • Must meet the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board certification requirements as a law enforcement officer or be eligible for certification through the Wisconsin Department of Justice reciprocity program
  • Experience teaching, training, guiding, mentoring, and/or coaching others in a professional work environment
  • Experience collaborating with internal and/or external stakeholders

In addition, highly qualified candidates will also have one or more of the following:

  • Experience as a certified law enforcement officer whose primary duty was the enforcement of outdoor recreational activities and/or natural resources laws
  • Acting or formal supervisory experience (e.g., hiring, training, workplan and performance evaluation, assigning duties, approving work, etc.)
  • Experience with managing a program performing duties such as budget management, ensuring work plans objectives are met, interpreting policies and guidelines, etc.
  • Experience leading a team or project in a professional capacity
