Description

This position is for North East Texas Connector (NETC), a division of The Freedom Rail Group.

The conductor position will control or coordinate train movements while switching railcars in the yard of the railroad, customer’s facility, or similar location in a safe and efficient manner to service our customers. This position requires that the individual become proficient in the following skills, duties, and requirements within a prescribed training and introductory period. This position will be based in Sulphur Springs, TX.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts the movement of rail cars and train movements; using lantern, hand and/or flag signals or radio to indicate when to start, stop, back-up or set or release air brakes, in accordance with railroad rules and regulations.
  • Prepares required daily reports; switch lists – manually or with a computer.
  • Acts as a main point of contact to Dispatch and other yard workers to issue and receive information concerning stops, delays, switching, etc.
  • Reads and interprets wayside signals, track warrants and bulletins, and railroad rules and regulations to operate train, following safety rules and regulations and time schedule.
  • Provides assistance in maintaining infrastructure at railroad facilities and along tracks.
  • Demonstrate reliable, and punctual attendance with a strong work ethic and a clean work history.
  • Must be available to work varied hours/days: Nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Receives train consist which provides the physical make-up of train and includes weights, lengths, location of loads and empties, and cars requiring special handling.
  • Applies knowledge of territory, including terrain, grades, curves, and grade crossings, in order to give prescribed warning signals and to otherwise operate the train in a safe manner.
  • Operates hand brake wheel or ratchet type hand brakes.
  • Observes track to detect obstructions.
