The ODU Research Foundation is seeking applications for a Computer Programmer I/Simulation Developer to perform work under the Virginia Modeling, Analysis, and Simulation Center. The Computer Programmer I/Simulation will design, implement, test, and create documentation for models and simulations. Code and scripts may be developed in a variety of programming languages and simulation platforms. Will work directly with customers to develop model specifications and identify testing criteria. Will implement and analyze validation tests and conduct data exploration under guidance of team. Must demonstrate Experience in building models using a variety of simulation platforms, documenting design decisions, and building replicable experiments. Experience in extracting, analyzing, and communicating transparent and reproducible outcomes.

• Write, analyze, review, and rewrite computer simulations, conceptual models, and documentation
• Write, update, and maintain analytic functions, packages, and platforms to support specific research projects and facilitate transparency and reuse.
• Conduct verification and validation testing, make appropriate changes, and rechecking the simulation to ensure desired results are produced.
• Perform or direct revision, repair, or expansion of existing programs to increase operating efficiency or adapt to new requirements.
• Conduct trial runs of simulation and software applications to be sure they adequately produce the desired information and that the instructions are correct.
• Consult with managerial, engineering, and technical personnel to clarify simulation intent, identify problems, and suggest changes.
• Attend meetings to understand research objectives, assess project needs, and discuss model development.
• Assist in transforming model building and simulation implementation and analysis tasks into conference papers, journal articles, and/or data articles under direction of team.
• Other duties as assigned

Required minimum qualifications:

Education and/or training:

• Knowledge is normally acquired through a bachelor’s degree in computer science, vocational or technical training or equivalent work experience.

Level and type of experience:

• At least one year of related work experience required. Experience can be acquired through a combination of education and/or industry experience.

Specific knowledge, skills, and abilities?

• Skill sets may include computational modeling building, computer programming or software development, data analysis, and understanding research to assist in creating/fixing items needed for effective Research Outcomes. Experience in implementing simulation models and extracting data from one or more simulation platforms.
