Job Summary


*This position is located at the Pecos Campus*

This position provides technical and instructional support in a higher education computer laboratory setting. The Computer Lab Technician works as part of a team under the direction of the Manager of Computer Lab and Instructional Services and responds to requests for assistance in person, by phone, or by email. The hired individual will use computers, printers, copiers, scanners, and other peripheral devices as well as computer programs, learning management systems, and a variety of applications.

Essential Functions


60% - Assists students with hardware, software, and instructional questions pertaining to college related activities. Communicates effectively orally and in writing to establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties. Provides customer service in person, by phone, and online.

20% - Trains and assists in the work of student lab assistants, maintains the appearance of the computer lab.

10% - Troubleshoots hardware/software issues and escalates as necessary.

10% - Works on special projects such as instructional guides, and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications


Associate’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution and one (1) full-time equivalent year of laboratory experience such as maintaining equipment, facility space, supplies or other resources used for laboratory purposes in area of assignment.

OR

High School Diploma or GED and three (3) full-time equivalent years of laboratory experience such as maintaining equipment, facility space, supplies or other resources used for laboratory purposes in area of assignment.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technology or related field
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite; Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access
  • Experience with online learning management systems, such as Canvas or Blackboard
  • Experience with online communications platforms, such as Discord
  • Experience working in a computer lab in an institution of higher education
  • Experience in tutoring and/or training
