How your work would contribute to our organization and the Twin Cities region:

The Commuter Programs Specialist will work with businesses, nonprofits, property managers and partner organizations. They will promote transit pass programs, educate employers about the commuter benefits available, and partner with agencies to design new or improve programs.



As a primarily customer-facing position, this person should feel energized by working directly with clients. This person will listen compassionately to a customer’s story, creatively help them find the best solutions for their organization, and be an advocate for their needs and those of their employees.



NOTE: This position is eligible for a hybrid (both remote and onsite) telework arrangement. The candidate's permanent residence must be in Minnesota or Wisconsin.

This position will establish a six month a six-month eligible list for current and future positions.

What you would do in this job

  • Ensure that all customer inquiries are met with prompt, empathetic, and comprehensive responses within established time frames.
  • Perform necessary administration and client relationship management functions such as recordkeeping, program measurement, evaluation, goal setting, reporting, and correspondence.
  • Support marketing campaigns, promotions and communications that encourage individuals to use sustainable commute modes, including incentivizing transit use.
  • Staff and/or facilitate events including, but not limited to, commuter outreach events, employer seminars, open houses, and other educational events.
  • Daily in-person meetings or phone calls with organizations to help them understand their transportation needs and the options available.
  • Prioritize the needs of marginalized workers and small/medium-sized business and nonprofit owners.
  • Build and conduct online and paper surveys, collect and analyze response data to gauge program effectiveness, and identify TDM program needs for use in reports and presentations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What education and experience are required for this job (minimum qualifications)

  • High school diploma and seven (7) years of experience in project management, program development, public speaking or data analysis.
OR
  • Associate degree and five (5) years experience in project management, program development, public speaking or data analysis
OR
  • Bachelor's Degree and three (3) years of experience in project management, program development, public speaking, or data analysis.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Competency with Microsoft products, Teams, Salesforce experience a plus.
  • Related employment or educational experience in transportation demand management, commute trip reduction, environmental issues, public transportation, or behavior change programming preferred.
  • Experience communicating with multi-cultural audiences, including BIPOC, immigrant, and English as a Second Language communities.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Detail-oriented and have strong organizational skills.
  • Experience managing ongoing customer relationships and/or accounts preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to organize and share complex information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds.

What your work environment would be:
Travel to various locations in the nine-county metropolitan area will be required. You would perform your work in a standard office setting.

If you are new to the Metropolitan Council, you must pass a drug test (safety sensitive positions only), and a background check which verifies education, employment, and criminal history. A driving record check and/or physical may be conducted if applicable to the job. If you have a criminal conviction, you do not automatically fail. The Metropolitan Council considers felony, gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor convictions on a case-by-case basis, based on whether they are related to the job and whether the candidate has demonstrated adequate rehabilitation.
