Overview: The Door is an unparalleled model for youth development, offering a comprehensive range of integrated services within a single site for nearly 11,000 New York City youth each year. Broome Street Academy (BSA) is our on-site tuition-free public charter high school devoted to providing students the necessary skills and support to graduate prepared for a successful future beyond high school. Together, The Door and Broome Street Academy are implementing a Community Schools initiative to develop and implement sustainable best practices for improved student attendance, student and family engagement, and academic achievement. BSA values partnership with caregivers, growth mindset, collegial feedback, relevant, standards-based curriculum, data-driven instruction and cultural responsiveness.

The Community School Program Associate is a Door employee, who is 100% dedicated to serving BSA students as part of an inter-disciplinary team of staff from both organizations. The Program Associate is responsible for providing administrative and program support to all Community School initiatives with a primary focus on maintaining attendance records and implementing attendance improvement systems as well as providing seasonal support for the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP).

Responsibilities:
  • Collect and enter daily attendance records data into PowerSchool ensuring accuracy of all attendance records
  • Support family engagement through regular phone, email and in person communication regarding attendance and other matters
  • Respond to inquiries from students, teachers, and parents regarding attendance rules and absences. Refer these inquiries to colleagues and track responses according to attendance policies and procedures.
  • Prepare, distribute, and file records, reports, and correspondence related to attendance
  • Assist with overall data management and create reports using Salesforce and funder database(s)to program services and outcomes
  • Support the SYEP Coordinator and other Door and BSA staff to place qualified students into work-based learning experiences. Conduct pre-assessments and weekly assessments of work sites during the summer program. Travel as needed throughout NYC to worksites
  • Support the planning, coordination and facilitation of work readiness training workshops and SYEP participant orientation
  • Monitor and review incident reports and inform DYCD of all incidents
  • Prepare, review, and edit written materials related to SYEP and other work-based learning programming
  • Provide general administrative and operational support to the Attendance Improvement and Dropout Prevention (AIDP), Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) teams and any other Community School initiatives
  • Assist in the coordination and execution of special events and educational workshops for students and families
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred and/ or related experience required
  • Experience working in a secondary school a must
  • Knowledgeable of and ability to apply positive youth development principles to working with young people
  • Strong computer skills needed, knowledge of PowerSchool, Parent Square, and ATS preferred but not required
  • Experience with event planning and project management
  • Ability to communicate effectively with school-aged youth, educators, families, and communities from a wide range of cultural, social, and economic backgrounds
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Knowledgeable of and ability to apply positive youth development principles to working with young people
  • Proficiency in Spanish, Mandarin, or French preferred but not required

Work Schedule: Full time, Monday - Friday, 35 hours per week
