Community Development Coordinator

Position Description and Responsibilities

The Development Coordinator serves as both an advocate and liaison within the community of Forest Park by assisting children and families by building strong support systems at home. The coordinator is responsible for a wide range of responsibilities including but not limited to the following:

  • Coordinate with partners to prepare and execute educational and social programs for the Forest Park Community
  • Support and maintain the vision, mission, priorities, guiding principles of the The Village Mentoring Program
  • Organize and schedule meetings with the board
  • Collect and store data, meeting minutes, and apply for grants and different funding opportunities to sustain the organization
  • Find volunteers and run proper background checks on them
  • Recruit children and families, organize events
  • Supervise the volunteers and children during events
  • Organize and gather materials
  • Train volunteers
  • Work closely with families and organizations such as the local school districts and churches or government agencies

Required and Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Computer application skills and the ability to analyze and compile technical and statistical data are preferred
  • Proficiency with Word, PowerPoint and Microsoft Office are required
  • Basic computer skills, especially email, spreadsheets, and presentation creation
  • Sitting and standing for long periods of time
  • The ability to work independently, while managing multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and work effectively with government officials, citizens, and community members is required
  • Interpersonal and team-building skills
  • Good listening skills
  • research and report-writing skills, and the ability to interpret or present data, knowledge and understanding of community and social issues required
  • Responds to and follows through on inquiries, needs, complaints and/or issues in a prompt and courteous manner
  • Accountable for meeting deadlines, responding to volunteers, community partners, and church leadership
  • Networks with national/regional resource teams and other local church leaders to encourage and share new ideas and best practices
  • Delegating tasks to appropriate team members or volunteer
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are essential
  • Willingness to manage multiple tasks at once and adhere to guidelines, budgets, and deadlines
  • Cooperative and communicative attitude with church leaders, community officials, and volunteers
  • Some lifting of boxes 15-30lbs during events and fundraising campaigns
  • Conducts need based assessments
  • Update/maintain volunteer and community member contact information
  • Perform other duties or special projects as needed

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • A Bachelor’s degree is preferred, preferably in a discipline closely related to the skills, duties, and responsibilities described herein
  • Three years of experience in grant writing, grant administration, project development, and management preferred

Schedule

  • 20 hours a week / Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday

Compensation

  • $17/hr.
