SUMMARY

Community Connections builds and expands social circles and creates meaningful shared learning, cultural, and active experiences to improve lives and reduce social isolation in Newaygo County.

Under the direction of the Senior Program Officer II, this position is responsible for assisting with strategic planning, implementation, and daily management of Community Connections. Responsibilities include managing existing programs (ex. Community Friends) and launching new initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, coordinate and implement regular programming and activities for Community Connections initiatives
  • Cultivate and maintain a positive and supportive working relationship with participants and community partners
  • Develop and maintain Community Connections calendar and timeline; provide updates to be shared with appropriate TrueNorth staff
  • Manage each of the program sub-committees
  • Recruit and retain program participants
  • Recruit, train, retain, and recognize volunteers
  • Maintain and update volunteer policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with Communications and Development staff to achieve department goals and outcomes
  • Promote programming (internally and externally) through public speaking, social media, marketing, and publicity campaigns
  • Continuously evaluate program processes and outcomes and recommend approaches to improve program performance
  • Monitor and research funding opportunities to support Community Connections & initiatives that reduce social isolation
  • Assist with reporting on grants for the Community Connections department
  • Collect and manage feedback from all parties involved in activities through surveys, written reports, and verbal comments
  • Ensure desired program outcomes are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters.
  • Create, maintain and update Community Connections forms and databases, to ensure participant files are properly completed and filed
  • Manage program budget and spending within budget guidelines
  • Assist with fundraising and special events and provide support to the TrueNorth Communications and Development department
  • Regular and consistent attendance
  • Other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Prior experience planning special projects / events
  • Strong communication (written and oral)
  • Strong people skills, with the ability to work with individuals and groups of all ages, skills, backgrounds, and personalities
  • Ability to work well independently and on a team
  • Attention to detail, follow up, and excellent organizational skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Ability to maintain volunteer and agency confidentiality
  • Ability to problem solve and exercise good discretion
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google products
  • Commitment to TrueNorth’s mission, goals, and values

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social services, hospitality, or communications, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Two years of experience in nonprofits or a related field
