JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Communications and Marketing Coordinator oversees all facets of the County's brand, marketing efforts and strategic communications, while ensuring they align with the mission and goals of Lenawee. This position works collaboratively to develop implement communication strategies designed to broaden the impact of Lenawee County's programs, services and messaging. This position is responsible for the planning, organization and management of the organization's strategic communications - print, electronic, video and web-based.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: No supervision is exercised
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: An employee in this class may be called upon to do any or all of the following: (These examples do not include all of the tasks which an employee may be expected to perform).

Works under the general guidance of the County Administrator in administering the communications, public relations and marketing functions of county government.
Responsible for writing and ensuring brand standards and quality control of all communications and media relations
Responsible for the development of media relations, public relations and advocacy projects designed to strengthen public confidence in government and to enhance public understanding of same
Responsible for creation, implementation and oversight of a comprehensive communications and public relations program that enhances the image of Lenawee County
Uses research, best practices and collected organizational data to drive the marketing of both the County and its products and services
Serves internal organizational units by working collaboratively in the development of marketing concepts and materials
Responsible for the marketing of Lenawee County departments, programs, and services to county residents
Consults with key leadership on community relations issues and concerns
Develops, refines and monitors core messages to ensure organizational consistency and adherence to brand standards and mission
Maintain a database of media organizations and contacts within them
Manage the county's social media communications
Create and produce internal newsletters for the county
Develop and maintain relationships with journalists in multiple types of media outlets
Develop logos, letterheads, brochures, presentations, promotional materials, and website elements
Keep current with the latest design trends by attending workshops, courses, and reading relevant material
Develops planning process to identify new/revised methods (e.g., media events, publications, meetings) for promotion of county messaging.
Identifies and recommend media strategies (e.g., buying air time, public service announcements, educational campaigns) for maximizing promotion of county programs and services within established budget.
Identifies opportunities for developing partnerships for promoting programs and initiatives
Assists in the development of policies, procedures and protocols for department staff related to communications/news media

DESIRABLE EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and/or QUALIFICATIONS: An employee in this class, upon appointment, should have the equivalent of the following training and experience.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in public relations, communications, marketing, journalism or similar field
4+ years of experience that includes some blend of public relations, communications, public speaking, marketing, presentation and training skills
Outstanding writing skills, outstanding verbal skills and the ability to communicate clearly and concisely under tight deadlines
Demonstrated media-relations skills, and ideally healthcare or public health experience
Strong leadership skills, who are energized by leading others and motivating teams
Must be comfortable in fast-paced environments and can remain focused, level-headed and cool under pressure
Must maintain good working relationships with the media, stakeholders, and constituents

PHYSICAL ABILITY
This job requires frequent sitting and typing/repetitive motion. Occasional lifting of up to 15 pounds with some stooping or kneeling.
WORKING CONDITIONS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee operates within an indoor environment.
