Position Highlights

The Division of Agriculture, Life & Veterinary Sciences, and Cooperative Extension is looking for a motivated Communications and Content Manager who will be responsible for writing and producing engaging stories to elevate the reach, visibility, and impact of the Division’s programs, research, and achievements. This will include web content, features, email marketing communications, collateral, social media, reports, campaigns, philanthropic communications, and event marketing. Under the direction of the Director of Strategic Communications, the Communications and Content Manager will play a key role in amplifying the Division’s research, education, and extension missions.

The Communications and Content Manager will be required to work within brand guidelines, using the appropriate voice and messaging for specific audiences, including internal staff, external stakeholders, program participants, and the general public.

The ideal candidate for this position will have a passion for creative, impactful storytelling with the goal of advancing the Division’s immediate and long-term growth and impact. Candidates should have familiarity and/or comfort translating and distilling complex technical/scientific concepts for diverse audiences.

As part of the strategic communications team, candidates should have experience working across functional teams to support strategic goals and communications/marketing efforts. The ideal candidate will be committed to meeting deadlines; have the emotional intelligence to work well with a variety of personality types; and be a team player who is invested in the success of the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences, University of Arizona Cooperative Extension, and the Arizona Experiment Station, its faculty, staff, and programs.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Research, conduct interviews with faculty & staff experts, write, pitch, and cross-purpose content for news media and web features, email marketing/communications, marketing collateral, social media, reports, campaigns, philanthropic communications, and event marketing.
  • Edit and manage content across print and digital platforms.
  • Assist the Director of Strategic Communications in the development of a division-wide content strategy, strategic communication plans, content and event calendars, and metric/analytic tracking.
  • Collaborate with creative services, including a graphic designer, user experience designer, and photographer/videographer, to generate engaging content across digital platforms.
  • Develop relationships with faculty and staff within the Division of Agriculture, Life & Veterinary Sciences, and Cooperative Extension, as well as campus and community partners.
  • Mentor and support science communication interns.
  • Additional duties may be assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to write compelling, creative, and on-brand content across multi-channel platforms (web, digital, print, social, etc.).
  • Ability to engage in creative storytelling by translating conceptual and/or complex science into powerful and consistent brand communications.
  • Exceptional writing, editorial, and proofing skills with a knowledge of AP style, as well as ability to support and cultivate writing skills in others.
  • Knowledge of social, digital, email, and web communications best practices and trends for successfully engaging online audiences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and enthusiastically as a member of a diverse, professional team.
  • Proven track record of supporting a creative, collaborative, and performance-driven work environment.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to establish priorities, meet deadlines, and work on multiple projects simultaneously while managing competing priorities.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with managing content in a project management system such as Workfront, QuickBase, or Trello.
  • Experience analyzing and reporting metrics, data, and ROI to measure campaign performance.
