OUC - The Reliable One, an industry leader and the second largest municipal utility in Florida committed to serving the community and the environment, is presently seeking a Combustion Turbine Operator - Osceola Generating Station to join the Electric & Water Production division.

We are looking for a knowledgeable operator who has great communication skills and can be responsible for all activities associated with commissioning, startup, shutdown and operation of the gas turbines including related auxiliary systems at the Osceola Generating Station.


In this role, you will work on all activities associated with the startup and shut down, operation of OUC Simple Cycle Gas Turbines (GT) and in conjunction with all activities associated with outside support of OUC, SEC B. Combined Cycle (CC), Indian River Plant (IRP) and Osceola Gas Generation (OGS) as needed. Work closely with control room Operators to learn CC operations. Operations personnel will be expected to be qualified as a Mechanic, Electrical and I & C Technician at a level commiserate to an EWP Technician III or higher and work as such on a periodic basis.


The Ideal Candidate will have:


  • High school diploma or equivalent education preferred
  • Broad shop training (equivalent to 4 years apprenticeship as either a Mechanic, Electrician, or Instrument
  • Technician) OR 4.5 years of power plant or 9 years industrial process control operations experience
  • Technical skills commiserate to a EWP Technician III or higher.
  • Extensive Combined Turbine experience required – Utility Grade CT’s preferred. Experience with GE MK6e, Ovation, Westation DCS preferred.

Job Purpose:

All activities associated with the startup and shut down, operation of OUC Simple Cycle Gas Turbines (GT) and in conjunction with all activities associated with outside support of OUC, SEC B. Combined Cycle (CC), Indian River Plant (IRP) and Osceola Gas Generation (OGS) as needed. Work closely with control room Operators to learn CC operations. Primary Functions:
  • Technical and operational understanding of all power plant systems and the ability to safely and effectively operate these systems within established parameters
  • Effectively operate and control equipment through the use of multiple plant coordinated control systems including Ovation and GE MK6e
  • Routine monitoring of process status and performance including sampling of gas and liquid streams.
  • Conduct routine equipment inspection rounds
  • Reviewing operations manuals, procedures and logging of shift activities and performance
  • Conduct routine housekeeping throughout the GG Facilities
  • Troubleshoot operational systems including problem identification, evaluation of alternative solutions and implementation of corrective action
  • Expected to be qualified as a Mechanic, Electrician and Instrumentation Technician commiserate to an EWP Technician III and work as such on a periodic basis during the year
  • Cross train in several positions and rotate routinely through these assignments
  • Lead and direct other Operators and Technicians
  • Note: Adding a % is impossible. Operators must do what is necessary at all times to ensure safety of life, safety of equipment, safety of the environment, generation of load and personal competencies. Percent will ebb and flow as needed to ensure core competencies.

Technical Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to perform above mentioned duties
  • Working knowledge of general industrial and power plant safety practices
  • Ability to communicate in an understandable voice with all levels of plant personnel, both verbally and on in-plant radio and paging systems.

Education/ Certification/ Years of Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent education preferred

Working Conditions:

This job involves very frequent exposure to heights and confined areas, extreme weather, and insects. This job involves frequent exposure to excessive noise.


Physical Requirements:

  • Must be physically able to wear a respirator when required
  • Must be physically able of lifting 40 pounds
  • Must be physically able to open and close valves requiring 50 pounds of force
  • Must be physically able to wear a firefighter’s turnout gear
  • Must be physically able to wear and use a self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) weighing approximately 30 pounds
  • Must be physically capable of wearing a negative pressure respirator
  • Must be physically cable of pulling a fire hose, use of firefighting tools such as pikes, forcible entry tools, hose clamps, etc.
  • Must be physically able of climbing numerous flights of stairs while using the tools and wearing the firefighter’s protective equipment mentioned above. (SCBA and turnout gear)
  • Due to the nature of the emergency operations the employee will be required to remain clean shaven at all times while at work to allow immediate use of SCBA or other respiratory equipment.
