Job Summary


Minnesota North College – Vermilion Campus in Ely, MN is seeking to fill a temporary, full-time, .75% FTE (40 hours per week) College Lab Assistant 1 – Veterinary Technology position to provide assistance to instructors within the Veterinary Technology laboratory with assistance and supervision of students within labs that include live animals. Lab support includes lab preparation and clean-up to ensure a safe and clean classroom environment for laboratory animals, students, and staff. This position will also work with the Program Coordinator to manage kennel care and monitor student kennel responsibilities.

Work Shift: Monday – Friday; 8:00 am – 4:30 pm through the academic year. Anticipated to work December 5, 2022 – May 16, 2023.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Post-secondary or industry certificate/diploma/degree, or relevant licensure in Veterinary Technology AND one year of teaching/tutoring experience in Veterinary Technology at the high school level or above; OR
  • 4 years of work experience in Veterinary Technology where no degree/certificate/diploma/licensure is required; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Commitment to diversity as well as a demonstrated ability to work successfully with persons of diverse backgrounds including sensitivity to their needs and concerns.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current veterinary technician certification (CVT) earned from VNTE exam.
  • Prior experience working in a veterinary clinic.

Knowledge of:

  • Vet Tech subject matter presented within the college lab sufficient to respond to conceptual questions raised by students.
  • Laboratory equipment sufficient to instruct others in its proper use and to perform routine maintenance.
  • Lab practices, techniques and safety standards sufficient to determine the physical layout of a lab and to prepare various lab materials and experiments.

Ability to:

  • Communicate orally with students and instructors through discussions.
  • Plan, assign, and evaluate the work of student assistants in the performance of routine lab work.
  • Develop and maintain lab records and reports.

Additional Requirements

In accordance with the Minnesota State Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to Minnesota State's vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
