The John Carroll School, a co-educational high school, located in Bel Air, Maryland seeks a College Counselor.

The College Counselor is a vital member of the education team at The John Carroll School. The position of the College Counselor is collaborative in that the College Counselors and the School Counselors must work together to assist students and parents in the college selection and acceptance process. The College Counselor advises and partners with students and parents on the college admissions process. The College Counselor is expected to maintain up to date knowledge on all colleges and universities. The College Counselor must be able to administer all aspects of the college search and admissions process to all students. As a representative of The John Carroll School the College Counselor is expected to support and carry out the Mission Statement.

Summary

  • Educates students on every facet of the college search, selection, and admission process; help students to aspire realistically and choose wisely.
  • Provides close guidance to students and their families starting in their junior year and continuing through their senior year. Initiates conversations with freshman and sophomore students to establish a planning process.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records of student’s application materials, college applications, acceptances, matriculations, scholarships, aid awarded and any additional pertinent information.
  • Builds and maintains an extensive library of college resources and placement guides. Serves as a liaison and communicates with admissions officers at various colleges to verify admission requirements for students.
  • Tracks and reports college statistics for all students.
  • Writes counselor letters of recommendation for seniors.
  • Maintains and disseminates information about standardized tests such as SAT, ACT, AP, and TOEFL. Helps to administer AP and PSAT exams.
  • Academic Advising and Scheduling for Grades 9, 10, 11
  • Participates in Professional Development including, but not limited to: PCACAC, NACAC

Job Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree
  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience working with the college admissions process preferred.

  • Willingness to relate and work with diverse groups in the community to include students and parents.
