Summary of the Job: Maintains a thorough knowledge of collection policies and procedures and implements these procedures in collection of all delinquent loans. Initiates necessary action on past due accounts and maintains accurate records through documentation.

Essential Functions:

  • Researches Overdraft, Consumer Loan and Mortgage Loan accounts thoroughly and contacts customers or co-makers for account resolution as needed. Documents all activity and conversation in delinquency work card. Updates customer account information to include address, place of employment, and telephone number.
  • Address Collateral Protection Insurance issues that may occur on collateralized loans.
  • Maintains knowledge of Fannie Mae and FHA collection rules and regulations and adheres to such.
  • Maintains knowledge of Fannie Mae and FHA reporting requirements and adheres to such.
  • Transfers shares to delinquent payment where applicable.
  • Obtains credit for research and skip tracing purposes. Accepts outside inquiries on skip tracing. Completes skip claims.
  • Recommends accounts for legal action and initiates follow up on all arrangements made to ensure receipt of scheduled payments. Refers accounts to supervisor for action by an attorney or collection agency.
  • Assists in additional collection procedures to include collection of NSF checks, negative deposit accounts, and repossessions as authorized.
  • Counsels with customers to resolve delinquency. Prepares extension agreements for Supervisor approval when applicable
  • Update credit disputes received from credit reporting agencies.
  • Maintains thorough knowledge of return items and forgeries and files claims to recover loss when eligible.
  • Transfers shares to bring overdrawn accounts to good standing where applicable.
  • Documents receipt of bankruptcy, inputs a status of the account on Southside Bank’s system.
  • Refers cases to legal counsel as needed for valuation disputes, lifts of stay, or Agreed Orders.
  • Understands and agrees to abide by the policies and procedures established at Southside Bank.
  • Must comply with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Performs duties in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and related anti-money laundering laws, and in accordance with the Bank’s Information Security Program.
  • Maintains a positive and caring atmosphere for customers and employees consistent with the Southside Bank’s mission and philosophy.
  • Provides enthusiastic, professional, and courteous service to Southside Bank customers and employees.
  • Maintains the security and confidentiality of pertinent information and records.

Additional Functions:

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum two (2) years consumer loan collection experience in a banking or financial services environment.

Necessary Skills:

  • Must possess computer skills including electronic mail, record-keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
  • Proficient in MS Office programs and possess the ability to quickly learn new computer programs.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have strong attention to detail and well organized.
  • Ability to add, subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram, or schedule form.
  • Handle multiple tasks and/or projects simultaneously.

Physical Activity/Dexterity:

  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items and work with fingers. Works with fingers and perceives attributes of objects and materials.

Physical Environment Demands:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 90% of the time.
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to visit other offices, conference rooms, office machinery, etc.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and telephone.
  • Constantly positions self to operate on a computer.

The person in this position frequently communicates with other people throughout each day. Must be able to exchange accurate information when conversing

Working Conditions/Environment: Well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation.

  • Moderate noise (e.g. business office with computers and printers, light traffic).

Work Schedule/Hours:

Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

  • Available for overtime as needed.
