Job description
The summer associate project at the Fairbanks Children’s Museum prevents summer learning loss among low-income households by offering several learning opportunities throughout the summer. In addition to daily educational programming, they offer summer camps and sensory programming for younger children. The Museum takes exhibits out to public parks throughout the summer to serve a wider audience of children so that those who might not have transportation or resources to visit the Museum can still receive educational benefits. The Museum attends various outreach events all summer long to reach community members where they are. The Fairbanks Children's Museum participates in the Museums For All initiative. Museums are an incredible community resource and should be accessible to all families, regardless of income. The Museums for All initiative represents a long stride toward the goal of reaching more children and parents, especially those living in poverty, with the valuable learning resources of museums. The AmeriCorps VISTA program in Fairbanks is housed through the City of Fairbanks (CoF). Summer Associates serve for 10-weeks helping local organizations meet their needs through direct or indirect service. Summer Associates work 40 hours per week and in Fairbanks, receive a monthly living allowance of $1,314 which is paid bi-weekly. At the end of a successful 10-week service term, they also have the choice between an education award of $1,342 or a cash stipend of $345.
