Position Summary
The Clinical Coding Specialist Level I assigns compliant, complete, and accurate ICD-9-CM diagnosis codes for the hospital component of outpatient ancillary services ( Lab and Imaging) based upon the clinical documentation provided within the medical record. Works collaboratively with other members of the coding team to complete all essential responsibilities in a timely fashion to meet the quality, utilization, and financial needs of the organization. Ensures complete and accurate abstraction of the medical record data.
Qualifications
- Required
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- AHIMA CCA credential
- Active membership in AHIMA
- A minimum of one year entry level hospital coding experience, ICD-9 coding required.
- Preferred
- Associate's degree in Health Information Technology from an accredited program.
- Completion of one of the following credentials:
- AHIMA RHIA
- AHIMA RHIT
- AHIMA CCS
- AHIMA ICD-10-CM/PCS Approved Trainer
