About Our School:
The Cove School is a non-public therapeutic day school for students with learning disabilities located in Northbrook just 35 minutes north of Chicago. Cove students come from 60 different public schools throughout the Northern Illinois area. Families can also choose to fund tuition privately.

For 70 years, The Cove School has been a national leader within its field, creating an exceptional environment where children with learning disabilities “learn how to learn” and develop the emotional and social skills to reach within, achieve above, exceed beyond, and maximize student growth. Classes are kept small. Teaching is flexible and varies according to the individual student’s learning style. A team of onsite specialists work collaboratively to provide students intensive, integrated related services.


DESCRIPTION:

Cove is looking for a unique individual who will provide a variety of supports including psycho-educational assessment, behavioral and academic consultation with teachers and parents, collaboration with public schools and program leadership. The School Psychologist is directly responsible for the psychological assessment of academic, social, emotional, and behavioral domains utilizing problem-solving and standardized evaluations. The School Psychologist monitors the completion of case study evaluations and participates in Individual Education Plan (IEP) conferences and problem-solving meetings designing systems, programs and services that maximize students’ social, emotional, and educational success. In collaboration with staff, families, students, and communities the school psychologist promotes effective educational environments.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • State of Illinois PEL: school personnel license, in School Psychology, General administrative license (preferred).

  • Knowledge of methods of assessment; systematic processes to collect data, translate assessment results into empirically based decisions about service delivery and evaluate outcomes of services.

  • Knowledge of learning processes, appropriate instructional interventions to meet students’ needs, and the ability to implement and assess their effectiveness.

  • Knowledge of behavioral mental health, collaborative and/or consultation models and methods and their application.


REPORTS TO:
Clinical Director

General Responsibilities:

  • Assume appropriate roles as adult model, behavior manager and educator.

  • Continue professional growth.

  • Assume other duties and special projects as assigned.

Preparation and Implementation Skills:

  • Serve as LEA for IEP meetings

  • Communicate with parents and home districts to ensure smooth continuum of service delivery.

  • Lead crisis intervention efforts

  • Provide insight into the development of functional assessments and behavior intervention plans.

  • Integrate psychological services into the classroom environment.

  • Provide assistance to staff in the design and implementation of appropriate interventions and accommodations for students, consistent with their learning profiles.

  • Collaborate with teachers regarding students' goals, programs, and progress.

  • Evaluate and/or translate research into practice and understand research design and statistics in sufficient depth to plan and conduct investigations and program evaluations for improvement of services.

  • Contribute to program development that furthers the integration of social, coping, and problem-solving in the classroom.

  • Provide supports to parents/guardians as needed.

  • Coordinate and/or collaborate with a range of individuals/agencies to promote and provide comprehensive services to students and families.

  • Provide and/or assist in professional development for staff, parents, and/or community.

  • Maintain CPI certification: participate in initial twelve (12) hours of Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training and techniques and yearly required refresher training.

  • Participate in professional growth activities on a yearly basis including workshops, in-services, professional reading materials, and/or other available offerings at The Cove School

  • Proficiently use technology to communicate, compile reports, and collect data.

  • Participate in building or program activities and meetings as appropriate.

II. Additional responsibilities

  • Participate in team meetings

  • Attend faculty meetings.

  • Participate in school events: Field Trips, Parent Night, Parent Teacher Conferences, Project Fair and Graduation

  • Participate in school committees.

III. Personal – Professional

Continue to remain abreast on the current research and practices in the field of learning disabilities.

IV. Community

  • Act as a liaison between Cove School and private tutors or educational therapists to consolidate services to students.

  • Serve as a liaison between Cove and the home school districts.

  • Represent Cove School at local/national conferences.
