Join our team at Swedish Issaquah where you’ll support nurses both in and out of surgery, among other patient care tasks. The Clinical House Supervisor assesses and stabilizes the patient condition and collaborates with direct caregivers to organize clinical information for communication to the patient’s provider.

The person in this role will spend time on our inpatient units supporting and coaching staff, providing both at the elbow and formal education on a variety of patient care related topics. As a Clinical House Supervisor, you will use a broad range of skills and depth of experience on a wide scope of medical care and emergencies. A can-do attitude, flexibility, and independence, and are needed to be successful in this role. Must be highly adaptable and collaborative. The ideal candidate will bring their expert clinical skills and knowledge to assist clinicians to manage their patient in a variety of clinical situations. Must be engaged, self-motivated, and possess excellent communication skills. Communication skills are paramount, as you will be interacting with nurses, providers, patients, and families in all departments while coordinating patient care.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years current ICU or ED experience. This position requires a highly skilled and knowledgeable RN with strong critical thinking skills. The ideal candidate will bring their skillset to assist patients and caregiver throughout the entire hospital. This role will be responsible for rounding on patients at high-risk of clinical deterioration, responding to various alerts and codes, implementing emergency standing orders and providing support to RN and provider colleagues. You will evaluate and assist in transferring patients to a higher level of care.

  • Makes daily shift rounds and communicates with the nurse in charge to assure that patient care needs are met. Assists nursing staff in the delivery of patient care, as needed, by interpreting and enforcing standards. Assists with the provision of patient care in crisis situations.
  • Communicates concerns regarding delivery of patient/family care to the Manager. Assists the nursing staff in their role of patient advocate to clarify and evaluate ethical and/or legal issues, and communicates to the Manager as appropriate.
  • Accountable for appropriate placement of patients. Allocates resources for quality care. Assists in achieving the department budget plan to provide cost-effective patient care delivery. Utilizes the Manager’s staffing guidelines to meet patient care needs. Communicates to the Manager changes in the staffing plan which affect quality care and the department’s budget. Identifies and communicates opportunities for improvement in the efficient provision of patient care.
  • Provides feedback to the Manager regarding staff performance and competency on an ongoing basis and as requested. Contributes to the identification of staff learning needs in collaboration with the Manager. Facilitates active participation of staff in educational and professional activities. Guides staff in meeting existing or additional role expectations. As a mentor, counsels staff in problem solving and decision-making. Assists Manager of Nursing Resource Office with management of nursing float pool personnel.
  • Represents Swedish Medical Center to patients, visitors, medical staff, media, and others in the absence of executive management.
  • Ensures effective and efficient hospital operations across all departments. Interprets and ensures adherence to professional, regulatory, and medical center standards.
  • Demonstrates leadership through active involvement in emergencies and crisis intervention.
  • Identifies opportunities for quality improvement and initiates appropriate referrals.
  • Leads and/or participates in committee and administrative meetings that are most appropriate to role.
  • Uses effective delegation and priority setting.
  • Performs as a clinical expert/resource to maintain and improve nursing practice.
  • Respond to codes and rapid response calls throughout the hospital.
  • Assists the staff member is assessing and stabilizing the patient’s condition.
  • Assists the staff member in organizing clinical data to be communicated to the patient’s provider.
  • Assists with patient transfer to a higher level of care.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program
  • Washington Registered Nurse License upon hire
  • National Provider BLS - American Heart Association upon hire
  • 1 year Charge Nurse or leadership experience and demonstrated leadership abilities
