The Job:
Our Asbestos/Toxic Tort department seeks a paralegal with a background in civil defense litigation and a willingness to learn Mass Tort.
*Salary Commensurate with Experience

Responsibilities:

• Conduct pre-claim investigation, legal research, and initial case assessments
• Research and analyze law sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, legal codes to prepare legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, or appeals for use by attorney
• Draft and prepare litigation documents for hearings and court pleadings
• Maintain exhibits, documents, evidence, briefs, and appendices
• Perform administrative duties (calendar hearings and deadlines, organize case files, manage logistics)
• Liaise between trial team and internal/external parties
• Aid attorneys/staff with interrogatories and other discovery requests
• Provide assistance with case settlements
• Billing for time

Qualifications:

• College Degree; Paralegal associates degree or other relevant certification preferable
• 2-3 years of prior experience as a Paralegal at a civil defense litigation firm
• Applicable knowledge of motions, discovery, evidence, litigation documentation, court rules and procedures, practices
• Experience with NJ State filing civil actions, discovery, and trials
• Collaboration with team members is an important component of any role at MKCI
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently, use time efficiently, solve problems and take initiative
• Strong writing and communication skills
• Collaboration with team members is an important component of any role at MKCI Therefore, the firm requires working from the office at least 60% of the time in accordance with the firm’s guidelines.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
