Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking a full-time Civil Designer/Engineer for an opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced Civil Engineer in utility infrastructure design for telecommunications facilities, sewer, water, and gas pipelines. This role will work as a team member of larger transportation infrastructure projects under the guidance and supervision of a senior project manager. You should be able to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer systems or products for a project. You will perform a variety of tasks which may include drafting, design, calculations, field work, coordination of tasks, and meeting attendance and recording.

In general, this role will perform and guide junior engineers/designers in routine aspects of civil engineering assignments, and may assist in the analysis of proposed projects.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Perform utility engineering designs which may include engineering drawings, hydraulic system calculations, pipe design calculations, engineering reports, design criteria, and prepare applications for regulatory agencies.
  • Assemble and develop right-of-way requirements from Third-Party Agencies and assist in developing models, reports and CAD products of project right-of-way.
  • Perform civil engineering design which may include engineering drawings, hydraulic system calculations, pipe design calculations, engineering reports, design criteria, and prepare applications for regulatory agencies.
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering project documents, client presentations, client contact and communication pertaining to specific project deliverables.
  • Attend and assists in client, contractor, stakeholder, and regulatory agency meetings to gain a better understanding of client’s goals, project requirements, site assessments, key challenges, coordination.
  • Assist in the development of design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
  • Recognize when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure compatibility with the design intent.
  • Assist with the development of job specific discipline specifications.
  • Assist in the review of shop drawings and submittals, responds to request for information, prepares site observation reports, and performs other contract administration tasks.
  • Assist in the evaluation and selection of civil systems and materials.
  • Participate in value engineering and basic cost estimating.
  • Serve as civil designer on large to mega transportation projects.
  • Participant on multidisciplinary teams in an office environment as well as in virtual team environment.
  • Assist in drafting proposals, drafting correspondence, and completing progress reports.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and also as part of a team.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and interface with multiple project managers and clients.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Experience with overhead and underground telecommunications and electrical facilities.
  • Knowledge of utility relocation processes and requirements a plus.
  • Experience with PG&E, AT&T, Verizon and other Central California utilities desired.
  • General understanding of concepts of relevant areas of civil engineering design, including gravity and pressure systems, geotechnical, survey, storm water/drainage design, road design, erosion and sediment control, and grading.
  • Knowledge of property boundaries, rights, surveys and other mapping documents.
  • Knowledge of utility property rights, boundaries, surveys, easements and other rights documentation.
  • Understanding of all phases of engineering document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
  • Recognizes when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate corrective actions using sound professional judgment, creativity and innovation.
  • Working knowledge of codes, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions and developing jurisdictional experience and contacts.
  • Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity and innovation.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Ability to interpret sketches, drawings and other similar material.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, as well as relevant discipline software programs, which may include MicroStation, AutoCAD Civil3D, PCSWMM, StormCAD, WaterCAD, (or other modeling software).
  • Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the design team.
  • Developing ability to effectively discuss project issues with clients and reviewing agencies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work efficiently and effectively within a team.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineer.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the profession of Civil Engineer or Electrical Engineer.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in California.

Typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Salary Range(s):

  • $163,100 - $252,800 (CA, CO locations only)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
