Kimley-Horn currently has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Aviation Engineer with experience managing Aviation projects to join our Utah team.
Responsibilities:
- We are looking for an on-call, part time employee to serve our design team on an as-needed basis
- Provide technical support to our busy Aviation team
- This role will be 100% billable
Qualifications:
There is no guarantee of work under this agreement. Kimley-Horn will occasionally send a general request to a pool of professionals filling this position. There is no minimum requirement of hours to work on a weekly or monthly basis. Maximum hours of work are not to exceed 40 per week (Monday through Sunday). Kimley-Horn will provide a laptop with TARGETS preloaded onto the machine. Standard office applications will also be available on the laptop. You are responsible to regularly (e.g. weekly) connect the laptop to Kimley-Horn for updates and to ensure the computer stays registered on our server domain. While this is a remote position, you may be required to occasionally report to the nearest Kimley-Horn office at your own expense (e.g. completing paperwork, IT support issues, meet with your supervisor). Kimley-Horn will provide a temporary work area for you when you need to be at the nearest Kimley-Horn office.
Specific tasks that may be requested of you include, but are not limited to:
- Cursory reviews of obstacles against Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 77 notification criteria to determine if a 7460 filing is needed.
- Cursory reviews of obstacles against FAA Order 8260.3, US Standard for Terminal Instrument Procedures (TERPS) to determine if more detailed analysis is required.
- Technical analysis of obstacles in relation to Part 77 Imaginary Surfaces, determining if obstacles penetrate/not penetrate applicable Part 77 Imaginary Surfaces and by how much. Provide opinions of potential impacts to Airport Operations by obstacles penetrating Part 77 Imaginary Surfaces and potential mitigation measures.
- Technical analysis of obstacles and potential impacts to Airport Instrument Approach Procedures, Instrument Departure Procedures, and en route traffic per FAA Order 8260.3 or other FAA Orders as applicable. Provide opinions of potential impacts to these procedures and severity of the impact (e.g. acceptable temporary impact for construction equipment, unacceptable and will close the airport).
- Participate in virtual meetings with clients to discuss findings/appropriate actions to be taken.
- Participate in virtual meetings with the FAA to discuss findings, technical analysis, and potential acceptable mitigation measures.
- Provide technical support/training on TARGETS software to select Kimley-Horn staff.
- Provide technical support, analysis, and proposed mitigation measures for obstacles that may impact NAVAIDs (e.g. PAPIs).
- Provide technical support, analysis, and proposed mitigation measures for developments within designated Air Installations Compatible Use Zones (AICUZ).
- Assist in developing responses to Notices of Preliminary Findings (NPFs) by the FAA. This may include participating in virtual meetings with the FAA Air Traffic Contacts assigned to review the Airspace Cases.
- Provide assistance in responding to any ADD letter requests from the FAA for Airspace Cases.
- Providing findings in a narrative form with tables and graphics, as appropriate, within the agreed upon timeframe for each project (typically within 7 calendar days).
- If requested, file obstacles within the FAA OE/AAA system and other OE/AAA filings as needed/requested by the FAA.
