Role Purpose:

The transition to a circular economy (CE) for plastics is the biggest challenge to the industry in decades. Across the entire feedstock-to-end user value chain, the traditional business model will need to transform. Borealis, through its polymer, application, and market competence has the ambition to become THE leader in the CE for plastics, through creating and capturing new business opportunities and evolving the business model of Borealis. This requires Borealis to move beyond its current focus on producing and selling polyolefins pellets and transform into a solution provider. This transformation will go beyond “value creation through innovation” and consider focused M&A activities in compounding and complementary products to PO solutions. It will also require Borealis to further increase cooperation with industry players beyond its immediate customers and traditional value chain players.

In this field, the Strategic Business Program Leaders will play an instrumental role, focussing on key strategic levers in the CE business model. Reporting to the Managing Director Borealis Americas, s/he will successfully lead key strategic initiatives and programs, assure timely and qualitative delivery, manage the related value chain engagement and influence the respective regulatory framework development. By doing this, s/he will help shaping the CES portfolio and broader Polyolefins strategic agenda to drive growth and profitability of the business, guided by the Borealis purpose “We are re-inventing essentials for more sustainable living”. S/he will also be responsible for the management and development of the business’s strategic KPI infrastructure in order to facilitate analysis and reporting of performance against plans as well as strategic objectives.

The role holder will:

• oversee and coordinate all aspects of the strategic initiative(s) (e.g renewable feedstock and advanced monomer recycling);
• effectively lead and leverage sizeable, diverse and multi-functional (project-) teams as well as potentially external advisors;
• manage and develop related KPI’s to facilitate analysis and reporting of the strategic initiative(s);
• liaise with external networks;
• build market intelligence across the value chains;
• recommend strategic technical as well as business moves and derive business development activities;
• identify and assess M&A or other collaboration targets and engage with those;
• communicate across the team and across the global organisation, including business development, innovation, and the polyolefins board;
• successfully lead the strategic initiative(s) to the desired outcome via a clear set of defined milestones and deliverables.
• Delivery of the respective CES strategic initiative target(s)

About you

• the clear potential to develop into a senior leadership roles within 3 to 5 years.
• University degree or equivalent
• Mastery of English at business level
• Financial literacy
• EXPERIENCE IN THE ROLE: 5-10 years of experience, bringing thorough insights from the industry, markets and competition with focus on the Circular Economy
• TOTAL EXPERIENCE: 10+ years international business experience that builds on earlier solid career foundation.
• Strong strategic and analytical skills and the ability to deliver analyses that provide valuable external benchmarking and varied insights
• Business acumen and business development skills
• Ability to collaborate and influence across a variety of key stakeholders
• Innovative, visionary, challenger of the status quo
