Job description

At the Institute for Effective Behavioral Interventions (IEBI), we provide state of the art behavioral services, which include ABA Therapy and Behavioral Respite. A Behavioral Respite Provider will be trained to work with the client on a 1:1 basis. Providers will work in the client’s home, facility, or community for 2-8 hours a day. Service areas include locations in the San Fernando Valley such as: Van Nuys, North Hollywood, San Fernando, Canoga Park, Winnetka, Calabasas, and Northridge (providers are assigned to clients based on matching availability and qualifications/performance). We are looking for individuals who are passionate about making a difference in clients’ lives and work in a fulfilling career!

Behavioral respite is a service that attempts to give parents or caregivers a break. It involves constant supervision and implementation of behavioral protocols to maintain the health and safety of the clients and others around them. Most of the clients receiving behavioral respite are adolescents and adults whose caregivers cannot provide all the supervision they require on a daily/weekly basis. The typical age range of clients span from 5-30 years old and typical diagnosis can include intellectual disability, autism, cerebral palsy, brain injury, dual diagnosis, unspecified disorder, among others. These clients usually show behavioral challenges that prevent them from receiving regular respite services. The clients receiving behavioral respite services might show challenging behaviors such as mild to severe aggression, self-injurious behavior, elopement, and non-compliance. Behavioral Respite Providers implement the behavioral intervention plans developed by a BCBA supervisor to prevent and address problem behavior, and to improve the client's level of independence (e.g., self-help skills). It is critical that Behavioral Respite Providers reliably provide the scheduled hours and give advanced notice if they are able to attend a scheduled session as our clients cannot be left alone.

Responsibilities of the Behavioral Respite Aide/Provider:

1. Create and maintain rapport with clients to facilitate ongoing learning and an effective professional relationship.

2. Implementing behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and session activities as instructed by the legal guardian or designated supervisor.

3. Provide behavioral respite services independently (1:1) with assigned client in their home, facility, or community. Supervision overlaps are offered once per month, remotely or in person, to assess client's progress.

4. Take necessary observation notes when deemed necessary and relay information to your supervisor.

5. Maintain professional composure when managing the client's moderate to severe behaviors/aggression and prevent any self-inflicted harm.

6. Maintain a minimum of 90% attendance rate every month with assigned clients.
